comparing two engines.....

How would the YS 110 FZ compare with the Saito 125 on the same plane?

I was actually looking for a bit more of a comparison, rather than opinions. The YS is in stock and costs a few dollars more than the Saito if I order it on line because I can buy the Saito for $319 +tax at the LHS. To order it from Horizon it's $339 + shipping. So, cost is close but power is greatest concern. I have a 110 on a 60 size mayhem but am concerned about it flying the Big Boy with the same authority. The mayhem weighs about the same as the big boy I think but has a smaller wing 72" compared to 80".

Go to www.centralhobbies.com and compare that YS 1.10 price to your lowest Saito 1.25 price. It is only a few dollars more.

I have both engines, by the way, and love them both. They are apples and oranges by comparison.

You won't hurt the bigboy there as tough as they come get the YS
Since you already have one stay with what you know the bigboy will be fine

RE: comparing two engines.....

I recently bought my first YS after lots of OS and Saitos. It is a YS 110 FZ. Numbers on MA k-type 16x6 prop are as following:

OS FS-120 Surpass III peaks at 8,700 rpms on 10% to 15% nitro.
Saito FA-120s peaks at 9,100 rpms on 10% nitro. (Saito 125 is a little weaker than this)
Magnum 120 FS peaks at 7,900 rpms on 10% to 15% nitro.

YS 110 FZ peaks at 9,600 rpms on 20% nitro. At less nitro it is not working properly.

As you can see in peak performance YS is the strongest. What you can't see but only feel is YS transition. It throttles-up like a rocket! It really worths the money. It is also 200 grams lighter.

My only concern for YS is how long all these pressure gaskets will last.

great comparison. that magnum of yours really lack power to the others, are you sure it is working properly? I am almost sure my sc 91 fs will not be much behind those numbers if I had that prop to try, just for the hell of it.

Yes my Magnum 120 FS operates OK but simply lacks power. Have checked everything from timing to valves, fuel lines, glow plug etc. Have passed 2 gallons of fuel through it till now.

I have broken it in as per instructions and now enjoys tons of compression. Is is really impressive how well holds compression as turning the prop by hand. It idles also all day long at 1,800 rpms. But as for peak power it only gives 7,900 - 8000 on MA k-type 16x6.

It is also oil messy (spitting fuel from the carb) while YS 110 is the cleanest engine I have ever run.

As for your SC fs91 it surely can't carry a 16x6 prop.

My OS fs-91 on 15x6 prop gives only 8,200. I can't imagine it on 16x6 peaking beyond 7000 or so.

RE: comparing two engines.....

Well thanks for the info fellas. Like I say, I'm flying my 60 Mayhem with a 110FZ and it has power to spare. I can't get it to flat spin, upright or inverted because I can't get the throttle just right. It just blasts out of the spin before it flatens out. I know the Mayhem is supposed to flat spin all day long but I haven't been able to do one as of yet. It will knife edge very easily.
