Suevia 25cc Glow engine Type 252
 

Gentlemen, If there are any old timers around you may be able to shed some light ! Approx 25 years ago I purchased a Suevia 25cc Glow engine Type 252 made in West Germany, The engine will be installed in a fairly large model caaled the Autocrat by the then Auster models, both being compleated now ie 25 years later. Has anyone used, bought, or has any info on the above. Is the manufacturer still in operation. I tried to get info on the web unsuccesfully. Any help, info, appreciated.

Here is my Suevia 1.50, it is Serial# 492 out of approximately 500, it barely makes 1.20 sized power and at the weight you see it is no light weight. My take is that it would be a very reliable engine never offering to stumble or quit. I ran it on 5% Fox fuel with 20% castor. It has a roller bearing rear main and is very smooth running, that huge muffler is fairly quiet.

I remember seeing one of these for sale in the RCU swap shop recently. I don't think the seller even knew what it was. He just called it a "big german engine". I could see that it was a piston port design, and figured it was no barn burner.

I picked that one up at the Lebanon, Pa. RC Flea Market two years ago for 75 bucks. I didn't have any particular need for for it, I bought it for its novelty.

That flea market is awesome, I'm going again this year with a fist full of $$$. I have'nt even used half of the stuff I bought there last year:D

Be aware that that motor when idled for a period of time had the annoying habit of reversing it's direction when you advanced the throttle. It could be real interesting if it does it at the wrong time. I'm not saying it will do it every time but it has the potential to do it.The only other motor that I knew that did that was the Fox 09 and you didn't have to be at idle. It would burp and change direction.

My little brother Jerry acted as my pit crew during my Fox .09 control line powered days - or something like that.

We got it running once (not an easy starter). I ran to the center of the circle, picked up the handle, checked for direction and then nodded to my brother to release the model. He released the model, it rolled forward a little way and then the engine made a funny sound. After that the model was just squatting low to the ground with the engine madly flailing away. It had reversed itself. It only did it that one time.

Many thanks for your input and the download which I will get translated. The pictures are great, is the 150 actually the 25cc? is that a scale showing 2+lbs ? I get the feeling the power is not what its supposed to be from your feedback so I am slightly concerned if it will generate enough power for my model. I will attempt to weigh the model and send you the info if you dont mind when finished. Could you give me a guesstimate on what this motor can handle on a high wing J Cub style model as weight. Thanks again.

Double F, if I get a chance today I'll run it with a couple of different 16x6s and 16x8s to get some useable numbers. The weight should not be a problem on the short nosed Cub. And yes, 20cc is a 1.20 give or take a little, the 25 would be about 1.50.

I recently bought a new in the box Suevia type 252 at a swap meet. I am somewhat of a collector and have never heard of this engine, so I just had to have it. At a cheap price I might add. The instructions, etc. are still in the box. Stamped on the box is: Model Rectifier Corp. as the distributor. I don't know when they were sold, but if anyone knows please let me know. The instructions call for a 14 x 7.5 prop. For an engine of that size, 25 cc (1.5 cu in) that is a very small prop. That leads me to believe that the engine down on power. Other specs. are: Bore 34 mm, stroke 27 mm, weight 1100 g, power approx. 3 HP at 11,000 rpm. Schnurle scavenging porting. For fuel it says, "use normal fuel (even without Nitro). It doesn't mention oil content. One comment of interest in the instructions. " Symmetric motor construction, which means constant speed in both directions". Interesting. A "hot" glow plug is recommended.

It being piston ported it will run either direction and will not have much power compared with what you are used to.

Just saw your message. Due to many resons have not finalised my model with the Suevia installed but hope to so so in the near future. As to your question I bought my engine with the model in Germany Stuttgart to be exact sometime between 1974 and 1976. Not quite sure of the exact date. Hoping this is of some help to you.
