RE: 3 blade prop
16-6 is my guess. And it is just a guess. Maybe someone who has switched from the same prop to 3 blade can give better advise.

RE: 3 blade prop
It will really depend on what brand prop you want to use. With a Master Airscrew, you may not need to drop much size, however with a Graupner, you made need to go a couple of sizes smaller. With a good quality composite it would be even different.

RE: 3 blade prop
MasterAirscrew has new 15x7 3b that should be perfect. A Graupner 15x8 3b might be even better.

RE: 3 blade prop
The MVVS 1.60 gas engine happily turns a Mejzlik 16x11.

RE: 3 blade prop
I think you forgot to add what it is you are using this motor on. People are throwing opinions, but what if you want max speed, or you want 3D? a16x10 3 blade works awesome for 3D with that motor in an edge 540 I had, then I had the same motor in a p-51 and it really loved the Mez. 16x11. Unfortunately, if you don't try several, and go by opinion, you may end up with one that is only satisfactory and never know the difference. Just my .$.02 worth.

RE: 3 blade prop
Hope nobody minds a slight highjack of the thread here......
What about a 3 bladed prop to replace the MA 15x6 for a Saito 170R3? This will be on a Sukhoi kit that has a very big round cowl. There won't be a lot of prop diameter past the cowl. Good performance will be an issue as this engine is about the minimum for the model. |
RE: 3 blade prop
Barry, Master Airscrew and Graupner each mke a 14x7 3b.

RE: 3 blade prop
Richard,
I owned this engine and owned this prop: Graupner 16x8 3-blade. It will swing it at around 9000 rpm -> perfect match. This is the same load as Pro Zinger 18x6. You can get this prop from www.hobby-lobby.com or www.prop-shop.com Master airscrew 16x8 3-blade will work too. I also have the MA 14x7 3-blade, 15x7 3-blade, Graupner 14x7 3-blade & 15x8 3-blade. They are all for smaller engines. |
RE: 3 blade prop
The rule of thumb is to drop 1" diameter and 1" pitch to get very similar results. Start off with a 17x5. Remember, what you add to the diameter must be subtracted from the pitch or vice-versa. It really depends on what you want. Speed, go with a 16x6 or 15x7. Aerobatic would ask for an 18x4. Just pick your application.

RE: 3 blade prop
Graupner 16-8, except no substitute :) I had one on a Saito 180, what a horse.
|
RE: help
I need to take a look at those Graupners.
