RE: problem with OS 46 AX

When you see some thing like oil depositing and burning on the head ( that is obviously coming from the head to case joint) that must be remedied immeditely! A leaking head will cause running issues, definitley. As will dirt in the carb as you also discovered.

My take on fuel? Well, if running cool power in lapped (ABC/ABN) engines will wreck them, I should have few engines left since thats the fuel I ran almost exclusively for more than 10 years before switching to Wildcat a few years ago. I had no engine troubles with it other than one engine which had rusted bearings, which I owe to my own carelessness of not properly winter prepping the engine for storage.

I would not run a full synth fuel only in a very high performance racing type engine, where the castor adds some buffer to an accidental lean run. However, in sport engines where the operator know what they are doing, and does not run their engines abusively - running a fuel such as cool power is in my opinion and experience just fine. But, you need to maintain them - use after run oil, etc. if you want them to last.

Everyone has their opinions, this is mine take it or leave it...

Andrew,

If only all R/C fliers would be as meticulous as an engine review editor like yourself, they would not need the extra protection, castor oil gives their tapered-bore engines (they are not lapped meehanite-steel engines and actually, most current tapered-bore engines are not lapped at all).

But the fact is that they are not...

As you could see in this forum (two threads on this page alone), some people obviously do suffer from over-heating with all synthetic fuels...

Strangely, Morgan tell you NOT to use any ARO when running their CP fuels... So much for your 'insufficient' winter preparation...

Ahhh Dar...

The whole "Cool Power -vs- The world" debate is like trying to push a rope. You just never get anywhere with it.

I'd bet CP users outnumber those running other fuels 10:1. It isn't my cup of tea, but it's hard to point to the "fuel" as being the smoking gun when the motor zonks out. You could I suppose, but.....it'd be tough to prove with any certainty. The vast majority of engines die from other causes much earlier in their lifecycle.

If they want CP...let 'em have CP.

It doesn't sound like fuel unless it went bad.
