ORIGINAL: blw OS 120AX OS 95AX OS 160AX GMS engines above 46 K&B .61 ST .61 for some of them OK, i think i was in a hurry when i started the thread, earlier. First of all, we refer to "ringed piston" when the connecting rod that connects the rotating crankshaft with the piston uses #2 rings one on the piston/connecting rod and one on the crankshaft/connecting rod. Right? Also, an engine with ringed piston can use only one ring on the connection connecting rod/crankshaft and use a simple pin to connect the piston to the connecting rod ? If so, does my 91FX use a ringed piston assembly ? http://downloads.hobbico.com/evpl/osm/ev19020aa.pdf |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Hi!
??????? There is only one piston ring in our engines!!!!!! It's on the piston! Why do you want to know??? |

Here is a picture of a ring and a piston designed for a ring. Your 91-FX does have a ringed piston.

RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Ithink he is talking about a bushed rod.

RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
A piston ring, or ringed engine refers to the piston having a ring towards the top and is to assist in sealing the combustion chamber.

RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
I am a little confused here[:-] Anyways ringed engines are just that, ringed engines, the rest are ABN, ABC.
Why list every single one here? it will be a verrrry long list;) |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
ORIGINAL: Kostas1 List'em here..... My OS 65LA and Irvine 53ABC Mk2 don't. We know, they are ABN engines;) |

RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Gorsh, if I just list the ringed ones I have, I'll be all day, here's a partial list.
(1) Webra P5 .91 ringed (3) Webra .91s two ringed, one ABN (1) Webra Speed .61f ringed (1) Webra SilverLine .61 ringed (1) Webra .50 with Dykes ring (1) Silverline .40 ringed (3) Fox .74s==two ringed, one ABC (3) Fox .60s =all ringed. (1) Fox .50 ringed (2) SuperTigre 4500s ringed (1) SuperTigre 3000 ringed (1) Seuvia 1.50 ringed/roller bearing crank. |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
G'day Dave
And I know they are not two strokes but your and my Lasers have two rings each. That's because they are 4 strokes and not 2 strokes and 4 = 2 x 2. I put this in because I can't really see where this thread is going. On a slightly more sensible note, there was a time when many manufactures made both ABx and ringed versions of their engines. Super Tigre was one and OS. |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Hey Mikester, Fox made a few engines that came in both ringed and non ringed. I don't have any non ringed fourstrokes, just Saitos, Enyas and the LASER .70. I sold my OS .52 a few weeks ago.
Since this is kind of about engine piston to cylinder seal, my PAWs are steel in steel and my Fox .25 is Meehanite in steel, the PAWs might be too. None have rings. On the PAWs and the Fox 25, you could hold them against compression all day and they will not leak down. |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Engines that I have, that are ringed.........LOL!
OS 61rf, os61sf, os28f-h, os32f-h, os61sf-h, os61rfn-h. OS 40fsr,45fsr,61fsr the old os58R/C has 2 rings ST S75K is ringed K&B 40 is ringed Irvine 61 side exhaust, Irvine 61R rear exhaust. Send an Email to Frank Bowman, He'll send You a list of engines He makes rings for. Over 200 by My count. [email protected] Jeff;) |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
ORIGINAL: Kostas1 does my 91FX use a ringed piston assembly ? http://downloads.hobbico.com/evpl/osm/ev19020aa.pdf The engines I listed do have single piston rings. Yes, your engine is a ringed engine. |

RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Here's a couple more for the list, the OS Max 40-H & the Irvine 40 Sport (UK made version) [8D]
OS Max 40-H = have four of the OS engines - with two having a dykes piston ring & the other two having a "normal" piston ring Irvine Sport 40 = have a few of these as well - they are all dykes ring |

ORIGINAL: MOTORMAN37 ORIGINAL: carrellh ORIGINAL: jeffie8696 I think he is talking about a bushed rod. OK i made a big mistake ! When i was referring to the "ring" i wanted to say *ball-bearing* !!!!![:-][:-][:-][:-] I AM REALLY SORRY FOR THIS. So, my question is. Is there any engine that uses a ball bearing for friction free connection between the crankshaft & connecting rod (1st BB) and between the connecting rod & piston/piston pin (2nd BB) I really apologise for my mistake! Also, because someone mentioned that the DD connecting rod has two bushings , instead of one.Is this bushing a friction reducing material? ? |
RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Hi!
You mean needle bearing? Yes! The MVVS .40 F3D engine had a needle bearing on the lower part of the connecting rod at one time. MVVS also has needle bearings on their 26cc glow and gas engines. |

RE: Which 2 strokes have a ringed piston ?
Sounds like you are wanting to convert a glow engine to gas. As a general rule, no needle bearings. You either have to run more oil in your fuel from a designed gas engines or make a rod to fit your spec.

Now you are saying ball bearings. Do you mean Needle bearings? Most of the good engines have double bushed rods.:D Engines that don't are useing a High Silicon content Aluminum for the Rod material, which with adequate luubrication works pretty well, but in my opinion is no match for a Rod with two Bronze bushings which are superior to a ALL aluminum un bushed rod. |
