Default Midwest Sweet N Low Stick

Hi all,

Looking for info on the Midwest ''Sweet N Low Stick''.
I know they had a giant 108" version that I am not interested in,
but did they also have a smaller version?

Thanks,
Bob

The high wing "Sweet Stik" from Midwest was 54" span. I think they made the low wing Sweet N Low Stik with the same wing.

Take a look at this, gives you some idea of what it was like

Thanks Fizz,

So it did exist, like you say a 54" ws, wing on bottom & stab moved to top. Makes sense.
I also noted from the plan at Outerzone that Hal Debolt developed it.
Oops, the plans are dated 1981 so I guess it is too new for the VRCS theme plane.

When was the original Sweet Stik (high wing) done? I have to build another of those some day, I sure liked the one I used to have. Good flying plane. This day & age though, I'd use two servos in the wing for ailerons and do away with that bellcrank system that the original used.

I bought my original Sweet Stik kit back in 1978 but it had been out for a while. It was a great airplane, I paired with a first generation OS Wankel rotary engine.

That's cool.. mine was around 78-79 also, if I remember correctly. Mine had an Enya .40, complete with Semco strap on muffler. Sadly, the Sweet Stik met it's fate one evening just about sunset when I lost track of being right site up or up side down doing rolls down the runway about 20' up. Turns out I was indeed upside down, and up elevator just wasn't the thing to grab. Still have the Enya, though.

I'm pretty sure the original Midwest Sweet Stick came out in the 1972-73 time frame because I was flying one in 1973-74. The plans showed Kraft KPS-12 servos which came out in 1970. They later modified it to have dihedral, which it does not need. Like everybody that ever had a Sweet Stick, I need to build another.

If flipped over to make a Sweet and Low, then it would need dihedral due to the low wing position to avoid adverse roll with rudder.

If Phil Kraft had been able to get a piece of every Ugly Stik copy ever produced he could have bought out Hobbico and Horizon!

I have a Sweet and Low Stick plan I bought from Midwest before they all got gone. There were others I wanted, but those were all gone. Sadly a lot of things pertaining to RC models have been lost.

I built one of these in the mid-80s with an Enya 40. If I'm not mistaken, it was out for a few years before they scaled it up into a giant. Good flying airplane until I dumb-thumb snapped it. Still have the plans, I haven't looked at them since, but being a Stik everything you need to scratch one is on that one sheet.

Bob,
When it comes to the theme planes VRCS tends to be pretty lax, especially when they use the phrase "and its derivatives'. A few years back when the model was the Kaos they allowed any of them in, including the Killer Kaos which was a late 1980's version. I dont think anyone would bat an eye if a Sweet & Low shows up at a VRCS event.

I had a Sweet & Low Stik and the shoulder wing Sweet Stik, building the shoulder wing and sold the low wing kit...wished I had kept it in hindsite.

It is not too late, Scott.
Since plans are available you could build a Sweet n Low Stik yet.
