Big Taurus
A while back there was a thread about the 1963 Ed Kazmerski Taurus. I flew two of them and would build another except for the fact that I now only fly gasoline engines. So, I have decided to scale up the Taurus for an old Quadra 42 that I have on the bench. It will swing an 18 x 10 prop. The big Taurus will have a 3-piece, 8 ft. wing. Due to the exhaust configuration on the engine, it will now become a tail-dragger as well, with sleek wheel pants to add to it's already stunning appearance. Attached are some construction photos: first the tail sections; then a photo of one of the outboard wing panels; then the center section; and last the assembled wing.
The wings are constructed around two aluminum tube spars with extensions that fit into fiberglass sockets that are part of the center section. I will be gone for about six weeks flying at some meets, so the fuselage won't get started until I return. In the meantime - all you Taurus lovers - enjoy what I have done so far.

RE: Big Taurus
Well, I thought long and hard about keeping the trike gear, but with the Quadra engine exhausting out the rear and then down, it can only be done by moving the nose gear so far back that even that wouldn't look right. So - I've made the decision, and the center section is built with landing gear blocks that really don't show well in the photos. I have the gears bent, and fitted to the wing. Once upon a time, before the Taurus, I flew an Orion designed by Ed Kaz. and it was a two wheeler. This new plane will be similar to that one, but will still retain all the proportions of the Taurus. I expect it to be a very nice airplane when completed.
Covered one wing section tonight with Ceconite.
