Default Graupner TAXI ( trainer ) age question

HI all , I've recently obtained one of these kits made in Germany,
but can't fiqure out how old it is, some dates are in the instructs
booklets ( 3 seperate ones) of 1966, but kit looked 1980's to me
this is a 50 inch WS 3 channel trainer, that comes with its own
Guillow kit type tissue paper, and the glue in a envelope to
mix with cold water to apply it , here's a scan of one of the books
which has a pic on it, also this kit looks like it was literally out of the
factory yesterday, very clean,

I built a Taxi from a kit I got for Christmas in 1969. It was way ahead of other kits from that time with very good die cutting and a fuse built of balsa plywood. I discarded the paper that came with it and used silk to cover it. It was a good flyer on three channels with an old cross flow Fox .19.
About the only drawback I remember is that the nose wheel wasn't steerable.

I still have it in the attic!

I would think that a new in box kit like that would be quite valuable to a collector.

hi , would it be possible to put a pic up of it? ,
I took some pics of the box art and box contents
I'm totally amazed at how fresh the wood looks in this
box , even has the 3 wheels , and a tail section thats
held on to fus with rubberbands, novel idea , your right,
kit looks ahead of its time

Here's a couple of pics of the Taxi straight from the attic, dust and all. Thirty years up there were a lot harder on it than the couple of years I flew it, the silk is all brittle and the rubber bands that held the tail on are just globs of goo now!
By modern standards it seems heavy and over engineered; the fuse feels like a baseball bat! Those cheeks on the side are the maple motor mounts, they go way back into the fuselage and tie the whole thing together.
The wing is a thing of beauty with an airfoil that changews out toward the tips. It sort of sweeps upward in a curve to the trailing edge to add washout while the front section is built flat on the board.
I'd forgotten that I added inset ailerons to it....I never used them because I used curved flex cable to actuate them and was never happy with the way they centered.

I'm not sure if your kit is too valuable to build or not, but if you do build it you'll have a real nice trainer.

Oh...that's an 11" prop lying on the wing just to give some sense of scale....it's not a real large plane.

Hi,

Is this plane handled well with 3 channels? How is the performance? It'll be my next project

As a genuine 3-channel model, it handles very well and can be even flown without elevator - like any typical trainer model of the 1960s. It flew well enogh with a .19 glow engine but could cope with a .35 as well.

Wow !! Quite amazing information, I'm kind of a beginner flyer and was searching for a plane like that, thank you for the information, definitely I'm going to build that...
