Futaba 72.240mhz AM or FM?
I have two Futaba Receivers. One is a FP-R6D 72.240mhz and one FP-R6F 75.640mhz. Are these AM or FM receivers. What channel would they be considered and why are these frequencies not listed in the current channel charts? Are they no longer used. They originally were used with the FP6DN Transmitter manufactured in the early 70s.

The FCC only allowed FM on the modern narrow 72 frequencies; AM could be wide or narrow. Those are the old freqs and can interfere with 3 or so modern channels of used. On the old AMs on the modern channels they can be either compliant or on the interim spacing which will interfere with other channels so it is best not to use them. I still have my old Futaba on red and white on the shelf, but I have some Kraft that are compliant on AM and FM that I use for fun.

the rx on the old frequencies don't cause the problem the transmitter is the culprit.the only narrow band m rx futaba made are the 117h 7 channel and the 114h 4 channel.

The old freqs were spaced 80 khz apart form each other; durring the conversion years they narrowed it to required 40 khz; old radios were at this level and were easy to change with just a crystal for the most part this was the silver sticker. the now 20 khz spacing requires our radios to run 10 khz widths to not step on everyone; the old radios had to have some mods and the gold sticker to be legal.

72,240 is between now channels 22, 23 but the 80 khz spacing could take out 21 and 24 also. Now you could not allow anyone on the channels to fly this radio but the AMA will not help if something happens and the FCC has it as a non rc freqency now so you would be doing to someone what we have been scared of which is interferance on our freqency.
