Default new plane

thought that this would be the new model, until I tried to fit the circular 60" wing leading edge into the back seat of the car. door not big enough. another reason for a pick up truck, as dissasembly would be too time comsuming. so will start looking for a replacement, there's plenty of the antique unusual planes out there waiting for me do. dick

There was one in Popular Mechanics (I think) that was a hoop wing craft....just imagine that one with a perfectly roundf hoop instead of oval. Seems like it had a .020 or .049 for power and was free flight and flew well.,. Had a vertical fin sticking up dead center the top of the hoop and that was used for trim (like an aileron)... Yeah those old designs were quite innovative... Another I remember was a disc wing ... It had a conventional fuselage like a pietenpol air camper except the wing was a round airfoiled disk on a strut aboute the fuselage. Was said to have flown quite well and was sorta stall proof.. I have thought of builting one of each...not sure I could pull up archives that old ...so would have to be from memory alone..

here is a link to a disc wing plane

I found a pdf of the plane from PM

While there , there was a cool plane called the blow-bug.... maybe the first ducted plane...who knows... real interesting very old design may have to try a foamy of that one

Have you seen the Caproni Stipa? Not very antique, but definitely interesting. A replica was constructed and it actually flew.

Hi Gitarpik,

You are too late, Dick built that one about two or three years ago.
