1/3 Matt Chapman CAP 580 ARF
I have seen engine recommendations for the 1/3 scale Matt Chapman CAP 580 listed as either 4.2 - 7.2 cu.in., which is 69 - 120 cc. Elsewhere, I have also seen it listed as 85-120cc. What exactly would the acceptable low-end engine choice be for this airframe?
I have a Fuji BT86 with electronic ignition and would like to know if it is enough engine for the CAP 580. I don't do much 3D but would still like adequate power reserves for some semblance of vertical performance.
Thanks.

The tech notes for the engine state:
"REQUIRES: Engine: 4.2-7.2 cu in (80-120cc) glow or gasoline"
Your 86 cc twin would be near the bottom of the power range for the model. While it will fly with that powerplant, you'll not have a lot of power for vertical maneuvers. It'll likely fall out of vertical rolls or snaps. You will be able to loop out of level flight but not much more. 100 cc will be needed for good aerobatic performance.

RE: 1/3 Matt Chapman CAP 580 ARF
BTW, any plans on a CAP 580 version that a Fuji will power well? I've finally got several friends sold on these Fuji engines for their GP Stearmans, Patty Wagstaff and Christen Eagles, and so a few more gasser ARF choices would really be nice.
I hear rumors of a 50cc version of the CAP 580. I would really like a 28~30% scale (80" to 86" wingspan) version, where either the Fuji 50 or 64 would work well. How about it?
