Default GP .60 J3 Cub Balsa Stock to Small?

I started constructing the 60 size cub and found the size of the balsa tail stock (Part # CUB6S03) needed for the horz. stab trailing edge to be 1/8" to short.
I checked the other 3 pieces and all were short. The plan states "cut from a 5/16" x 7/8" x 24" balsa stick", the instruction book, page 10, step 3, states "cut the stabilizer trailing edge from a 5/16" x 7/8" balsa stick". All four 5/16" x 7/8" sticks measure 23 7/8" long.
If I pinch the left and right "S4" pieces in then I get a large gap on the S1 corners.
I believe a 1/8" gap is to big, especially in the tail, to fill in with CA or putty.
Either the plan and manual are wrong by stating "cut" the stock (there is nothing to cut) or the pieces shipped in my kit are to short.

Another question. I'm very impressed with the laser cutting, it really helps with those big pieces. But I am wondering if the carbon residue left on the wood effects glue. Is it OK to CA glue without removing the black?
Appreciate all help and many thanks.
Tom

Trim the leading edge and get it all square and you'll be OK. 1/8" isn't anything to worry about.

As far as the blacking is concerned, many have ignored it with little trouble, others have used very fine-grit sandpaper to remove it. The glue joint will be a little bit better with it removed.
