tf p-51 gloden retracts
i am at the point where i need to get the grear installed but . the whells do not go into the wing all the way . but if i where to move the ralls down it could work. but the wing has been sheeted on the bottom side and i have have had to cut most if it of the way . how much more ply should i ad to this area don't want the grear to come out on a hard landing . this is my first retract install . any ideas . help please . thanks mike

You have to cut, trim, fiddle, and fit. Depending upon the gear units used, you'll have to alter the installation as necessary. The plans give you a guide, but retracts are a custom installation, and you'll have to make whatever changes are necessary to fit them perfectly.

I would recomend reading the TF P-51 thread in the kit building section, or the TF P-51C thread in the warbirds section theres alot of valuble information on retracts as well as general info for this plane,I am planning on building the C Malcom hood version like the thread from saramos in the warbirds section theres alot of info you just need to do some digging.

I want to give a bit of a warning if you visit my TF P-51B BUILD thread. I worked a long time to get my gears installed, only to finally realized that I installed them upside down since the wings are built upside down. Don't copy the first set of rib templates I posted on page 3!! The rail template works, just swap left for right. Also note that I changed the geometry for having the wheels in the scale location.
