Airelons /rudder on TF Gold Edition Spitfire
Please can anyone tell me what or how should I cover the Airelons and Rudder and flaps on a top flite spitfire, should I use sheet balsa or do I have to cover with monokote or something? I have glassed the wings and fuselage can you help as I cannot find anything in the instructions. Thanks

I used coverite on the rudder and elevators and skinned my ailerons. I used 1/64" ply on the ailerons. If I were to do it again, I would stick to balsa.

If the controls surfaces are to be covered in sheet balsa, it would be supplied in the kit and mentioned in the instructions. The actual, full-size aircraft had fabric-covered surfaces, so you need to use the covering material of your choice. Painted fabric-types will be the most realistic.

the ailerons were sheeted with metal on the full size airplane TF recomends covering with a shrink type covering I used 1/16 balsa to sheet the ailerons and Ultra coat for the rudder and elevator then painted the camo and undersides with lustre-coat paint.

As BigTim stated, the MK IX had metal covered ailerons. The rudder and elevators were still fabric covered.
I used 1/64" ply to cover the ailerons and coverite for the rudder and elevators. If I were to do it again, I would have gone with balsa fort the ailerons instead of the ply.
