Rare Vario Hughes MD 520N NOTAR Scale RC Helicopter
This is a gas engine helicopter. The engine is Vario 75-P5 petrol engine. Includes engine, servos, gyro, lights, fuel tank. The only thing missing is a receiver and transmitter. The rubber hose on the exhaust was cracked so would need to be replaced. The servo/lights batteries might need updated as well. They have sat for a while.
I got this from a relative who no longer flys it. And it's too large for me to fly. I also don't have the equipment to operate a gas helicopter at the moment. The model has some older electronics in it that could certainly use an upgrade. I haven't tested them though, they might work fine. I was planning on converting it to electric but don't have the funds or the time any more. The engine spins freely and has great compression. If you are familiar with gas engines and have the equipment to run them, then it would be great to leave as is. Conversion parts can also be obtained from Vario themselves.
It has a nice professional paint job in a police style theme. It also has lights installed throughout for a scale look.
VARIO was the first to develop a NOTAR mechanics for model helicopter kits. The NOTAR ("no tail rotor") system uses a fan inside the boom to build a high volume of low-pressure air and is manipulated by internal fins controlled by a tail servo. Benefits of the NOTAR system include increased safety (the tail rotor being vulnerable), and greatly reduced external noise as tail rotors on helicopters produce a lot of noise. NOTAR-equipped helicopters are among the quietest certified helicopters.
Fuselage length: around 54 in
Blade length: approx 52 in from blade tip to blade tip (or around 1400 mm)
Thanks for looking. If you have any questions, let me know.
Asking price $2500
