Default AXE heli question

Hey all,

I been flying nitro helis for some time, everything from 30's to gassers. I have never tried a little electric but saw a guy flying a hobbico axe. I was hoping to get a little input on

1) is this a okay heli to do some 3d in front yard (main reason I am looking for a small electric)
2) Is there any upgrades that help it along to do some minor 3d (lipo, etc?)

Thanks for any input

Z

I would not go with this thing, may want to try the next one up in the T-rex area.

Yep, I looked into the Trex a while back. Obviously a performer but by the time I totaled everything up, I could just about put myself into another nice 50 nitro. I was hoping to find something a little less to screw around with in front yard.

Z-

I don't want to bad mouth the AXE CP, but you might be happier going with a 450 class electric heli.

Please don't get me wrong, the AXE CP is a great heli to learn the basics on, but there are several issues with parts availability. Tower Hobbies is the main parts distributor for Heli-Max. Not very many hobby shops carry these parts. There are a few parts that are interchangable with the Blade CP.

As for upgrades, you can get the CF main and tail blades and boom. There are Heli-Max CNC head parts and there are micro heli CNC head parts. Both look to be quality parts. The Micro Heli parts are 10 to 20 bucks cheaper.

AXE CP doing 3D? I'm too new at rc helicopters to try 3D yet. But to be honest, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing more than inverted hovering and maybe some loops.

Several of the folks on this forum have other helicopters that they fly. They keep their AXE CP to tinker around with and get stick time when their other helicopters are broken and waiting on parts.

Since you mentioned you already knew how to fly rc helicopters, you may be happier with a 450 class. Just about everyone makes 450 class helicopters. T REX is kind of the standard that almost everyone else has based their 450s off of. For that reason most parts are interchangable. As an example you could have an Align TREX head on your Titan 450 and so on. Almost any major RC Store is going to have parts for the 450.

If you look around on-line, you could put together a package deal for a high quality 450 class heli for under 700 bucks. You may or may not want to spend that much on an electric heli, but that's just a ball park figure. I've done a fair share of research and I'm going to get a RC Tek 450 Sky shark. The total, everything I need to fly, package is going to be about 695. Between buying my AXE CP, parts and shipping I've already spent a little over 400. Another 300 and I'd have my Sky Shark.

Look at some of the online rc stores and see what kind of deals they couold get you. The average 450 class heli costs between 200 to 350. Then throw in your radio, servos, batteries and charger and there's your package.

I hope this info has been helpful. I love my lil budy (AXE CP) and I'll keep flying it after I get my Sky Shark, but the AXE CP, to me, is nothing more than a training heli.

Thanks for the info, that is exactly why I posted the qustion. Sounds like if i want performance and such it will need to be a 450 class heli. Wll give me something to think about. Thanks

I have an axe cp l and i have changed the receiver to digital so i could use it with my dx6i. It is now a great little heli, i have an blade 400 which is alot better because it has the gyro and i changed the servos. Almost all helis are going to need some kind of upgrades but the axe is ok to play with and i love to fly it around, now that i got rid of the stock receiver and transmitter.

Okay, I will be the first to admit that the Axe is not a raging 3d machine, but it never fails to amuse me how people get on to a site dedicated to a particular heli for the specific intention of talking people OUT of said heli.

I have also flown nitros for awhile, and tho no expert, can put it up and down without too much stress. I just bought an Axe CP about a month ago and have been having a blast with it. It is no Trex and I knew that when I bought it, in fact that's why I chose the Axe. About 1/5th the investment and tons of fun in the back yard. I already have a nitro for the field, I just want something I can have some fun with at the park. To answer your first question, if you're looking for a 3d monster, keep looking and be prepared to pay proportionately. If you're looking for a cp heli you can have fun with it's a good little machine. As for upgrades, there are plenty of upgrades for this machine, but I'm not sure how much more performace you will squeeze out of it. It's not really meant for all out performance. Shadow99 can probably steer you in the direction of extreme upgrade to this machine...I think his Axe will outperform my Raptor 50 by now
