The BEST and I do mean the BEST thing you can do for yourself is get a sim. It does not matter if you get the $20.00 sim or the $400.00 sim. It will save you way more in parts then you will spend on the sim.
Yes the $20.00 sim does not have to best graphics or bells and whistles, but it will teach your thumbs a few things. I have (3) free sims, (1) $20.00 sim and a $200.00 sim. The only real difference is the pretty graphics and the way the helicopter flies. The more they cost, the closer to reality they are. Teh other thing is in the beginning, never get it off the ground, just scoot it around until you can control it better then just letting it go where it wants.
Dru.
P.S. Don't forget about the sim!!!!

I have to agree about the sim...it helped a lot to get into the air. I also found RADD's instructions very helpful as well. [link=http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html]RADD'S School of Rotary Flight[/link]

MegaMaxx,
I too am a heli noob, and got my axe like a week ago, have gone to the hobby shop 4 times to replace parts.
I just got a flight sim, and the cable to connect my TX to the computer, I will be practicing on it before i get the Heli back out again
The sim is by far the best idea to practice on, or be prepared to make several Hobby shop runs

,figure i will spend some time on a sim first.honestly this thing scares me a bit.have not been this nervous about a hobby since my dad put the first control line plane in my hand back in the 70's......
