Default Flying backwards

Does anyone have advice about flying the heli tail first or backwards. I've been thinking about stick movements and its very different from normal forward flight. For example, when flying nose in and then going away from yourself and wanting to go to your right, you must give left stick- right to point the tail to the right, and right stick- to the left and up, to bank and then to pull the tail up (or push the nose down). I'm an old airplane flyer and have never experienced backward flight.

Thanks.

Well, if you still have the rate gyro it will be quite a tiger to tame!! I have a HH gyro on my HDX450 and it flies backwards as well as forwards!

I smashed up thousands of dollars worth of helicopters trying to learn backwards flight. Luckily it was on a sim so the only thing I had to endure was some cackling by my wife who was watching.

Yeah, I crash alot of heli's learning new steps. I'm pretty sure these things can't really be made to fly all the way around and come back to one spot in a flyable one piece. Love that reset spacebar on the keyboard...Right after I say"(*&&#$%" Doc

I like the sim as much because it has a bunch of models I don't have to clean off, fix, oil and adjust .

Once you know the orientation well, you will catch on quickly to backwards flight. The way I learned orientation was to think of the blades as a dinner plate. The sticks will push down the 'dinner plate' in the direction you move the sticks. I only think of the nose direction when flying. Once you have the mindset of blade orientation in relation to the TX, no matter where the nose is pointed you will instantly know which way to push the dinner plate down. I hope this makes sense and helps. Orientation is the hardest part to learn.
