Setting up a Helimax MX 400 Pro

I purchased a MX 400 Pro for my Son for Christmas. He has flown several Dragonflies and Honey Bees successfully. He is having problems setting up the gyro and programming his Hitec Eclipse 7 Radio.
Because I fly RC planes and run boats, I'm unable to help him and no one else in the area flies helis.
We would both appreciate your help. Thanks alot.

Several months ago I asked a similar question and Airman Bob sent me these settings which worked very well to get me going. I have a different radio than you so I can't help with those specifics but these are the curves that I began with. The one change that I have utilized is to make my Normal Throttle look more like an Idol up throttle in order to prepare me for when I enablethe Idol up later when I get better. I am using 0, 65, 65, 65, 65 This seems more steady as only the pitch is changingt. Good Luck from one Newbe to another. Cheers

Well, if you're Pro looks anything like my Pro you don't use 3-S as your swash setting. You MUST use 1-S.

I-TH (idle up throttle)
INH (inhibit this while learning or face disaster)trust me on that.

HOLD
0% (set a zero so that if you bump the THHOLD switch by accident you don't go to a high throttle setting. With this switch in the forward position (towards you), your throttle stick will not work).
REVO
INH (don't use with a heading hold gyro)
GYRO
INH (if you have an inflight adjustable gyro then you use this to switch between Heading Hold and Rate gyro.
SWSH
1-S You MUST use this setting if yours is mCCPM like mine. Check the photo and see servo positions. If they are same as mine use 1-S only.
NOTE: These are all settings that will get you up and hovering when your throttle hits about the 50% position. Later, when your hovering well you may want to experiment with these settings. Be SURE to write all these down BEFORE you go changing anything.

Hmmm, another thing you might want to do is buy or borrow a Castle Link . These cost about $30 and conect the ESC directly to a computer to allow you to see and change the settings. You can do this without the computer but it is very difficult and it is quite easy to accidently change settings because you have inadvertantly entered programing mode.

Is this a accurate depiction of how this helicopter is????
In the sim it needs much more power with 3s lipo packs..... It has a hard time just pulling a loop...
How does the real one's fly???
It seemes that to do anything but hoving and strait flying is all it's capable of...
3D-just seems posiible only with a motor upgrad (in the sim anyway)

On another note though. I would NOT recommend the stock configuration for this heli. Upgrades are very important. The Motor and SC overheat. Causing more problems then you can imagine inthe long run.
Change the Rotors as well.
Rehabber - It is a great little heli and can be a great one to learn on. Take the advise I gave Kochj - Upgrade the motor and SC, youll overheat your batteries and the speedcontroller is not sufficient. I modified and installed a large Heat sink on my motor and SC. Sorry I cannot assist with the Radio stuff though as I use a RD6000 airtronics. BTW, What Gyro you go with. I use the Futaba GY240. Works fine.

The reason I went with that one and not the mx450sx, was because it came with that stuff.....
It is -10F here right now, so if I fly outside and its like 20F I should still be okay.... shouldn't have to worry about it then
