RE: axe cp thread
I just got my axe 2 weeks ago and of course got one that hops(loses about 12 inches of altidude all the sudden). So I order 3 hs 55 servos and got them installed.Well still have the same problem.Any one else have the same problem. Not too noticable outsied but in the living room can be a real pain. Also about the blade grips,I noticed the replacement I got only have the hex on one side for the nut,so 1 scew has to go in fom the bottom. Thanks for any help.

RE: axe cp thread
The screw comes in from the TOP!
Make sure the nut is seated all the way into its little home on the BOTTOM of the blade grips. Some manual somewhere shows it BASS ACKWARDS! The sudden loss of altitude is not those servos. Indoors, you get air pockets and currents that can mess you up big time. You need to be Johnny on the Spot with the throttle to keep this model steady. ALSO - The stock battery pack is WORTHLESS!!! You have to run this bird with a LiPo. That stock pack is only good for checking out the system and MAYBE the first couple BRIEF hover attempts!! She FLIES so much better with the necessary power, and that stock pack does NOT have it. |

I am new to heli's and was wondering if someone can tell me if the axe really is a good machine to learn on. I have rfg3.5 on the way but have not ordered my heli yet. I here alot of you talking about the lipos and was wondering which ones you all recommend and what charger works best for them. Also which aftermarket servos work the best. Thanks from a true newb.

RE: axe cp thread
Bigpapa if you have realflight on the way I think you should wait. Practice for about a week or two before you order. I practice on G3.5 for about two and a half week before I ordered my Axe. It is very stable once you get it trimmed out. I have had it for three weeks and am tempting forward flight. It was fairly easy to learn on. The AXE in the sim is a lot easier to fly, only because it is perfectly trimmed out. The stability and control characteristics are similar. If you can fly the sim Axe around the field with out crashing you can hover the Real Axe.
I do not have any lipos yet, so no imput on that. But evryone is talking about the Hitec 55s they will run you about $45-$50. |
RE: axe cp thread
This may sound wierd but I'm finding it easier to practice hovering in idle up mode. I'll bring it up to about hover then flick the switch, it seems to be alot more stable and react faster to my controll inputs. Why?

RE: axe cp thread
xxxn my max cp does the same thing Hobby Services was no help. They just want me to send it in. It'll take a month to get it back. Could the receiver be bad??? Maybe I can get them to send me a receiver. They did send me a E board. DIDn't make any difference......Any idea what is wrong....It does it inside and outdoors ??? I switched out the servos one at a time and got the same problem.. Thanks in advance for any info......

RE: axe cp thread
Got in my first flight this morning.... this is going to be a lot harder than the gas one, much more unstable.
Anyways, I loaded fresh batteries in the tx and flew the first flight. Came in turned everything off and let stuff cool. I just got done recharging my second pack, when I turned on the tx the batt low light now blinks 4 times. The batteries can't be low already, they we're fresh and new this morning, and I did'nt leave it on. Anyone know if this truly means the batteries are low? |
RE: axe cp thread
Just finished flying. I was hover all over my front yard. This thing really fights the wind. Amazing hovering. It blew over my head and lost lift. Thought it was going to land on my head.
Guys wich way are you hitting the idle up switch. Are you bushing it toward you or away from you. |
RE: axe cp thread
Ok, pulled all the batteries out of the transmitter and tested each one. Found one cell reading negative, replaced it and alls good now.
Second flight a little better. Boy do I need to get a lipo pack and charger though. Should probably get some spare blades and grips too, had a few close calls with the asphalt. [X(] |
RE: axe cp thread
You'll kick yourself for not getting a lipo sooner. :D It helps with them random drops too because of the higher head speed. And for whoever asked about the idle up switch, Flipping it towards the back of the Tx is idle up off.

RE: axe cp thread
Anyone have any stock servos with arms laying around? I have an orphan Axe that needs some parts, lol.:D

RE: axe cp thread
I have some really bad news.
Was flying in my front ward when it happened. I was flying fine for the first hover. When I put her down the tail struck the ground and broke. This was not so Bad. I then made A $30 mistake. I fixed the Rotor with tape. I got it into a hover and was fine, then drifted to for forward towards my nieghbor's car. Can't hit that. Gave it more throttle, fine glidded over it. Started to drift toward the steet, pulled her back to me. On the way the tail rotor tipped a twig on the tree. Disaster, The fixed tail blade ripped off. The one blade held her fairly still though, but see started to spin slightly and leaned way to the right. Made the correction and she leaned way to far to the left and lost way to much altitude and just dropped. When the heli dropped to the ground the tail mount snapped and the Tail motor assembly flew up and hit me in the arm. Didn't pay attention to it. The blades continued to spin and smash into the tail boom. Bent it to a fouty five degree angle. Oh and while the tail motor flew off it cut through the tail motor extension wire. Damage report: Tail Motor Tail boom Tail motor mount Tail Rotor Main Rotor Tail motor extension wire |
RE: axe cp thread
Holy Mackerel!!! :( I presume you made it over the car and hopefully didn't leave any Axe morks on it. And I certainly hope you are okay.
It has always amazed me just how much damage these things can do themselves. I mean, they reach out to places they shouldn't and just whack themselves to death. Carl |
RE: axe cp thread
No I didn't hit nthe car. THANK GOD. I uder stand how the wood blade bends a piece of metal and dents it but does not break that bad, jsut gets nicked.
I'm fine, A little pissed and shaken, but fine. |
RE: axe cp thread
Well after doing some research it looks like I will be sending the Axe back, you guys have seem to have a lot of problems with the electronics.
I plan to get a TREX insteaad. |
RE: axe cp thread
r/cheliman-- That is a bummer[:o] You can use this code 010F3 to get $10 off a $25 order at Tower. From the looks of your list you might want to make two small orders using the code both times to save $20. Either way get ready to open up your wallet.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...n/wallet_1.gif
I had a minor incident today but it was nothing like yours. I spent 3 packs today working on nose in hovering. I was doing well on the 1st pack when I started to head for the wall in my garage. I dumped all the throttle and it dropped like a brick. Good news is that I did not hit the wall. The bad news is, when it hit the ground one of the main blades struck the tail. It bent it about 30 degrees from straight. I took the heli over to my work bench braced it and bent it back pretty straight. I then went back at it. I had to play with my trim to get it solid again, but it was not too bad. This little heli is pretty tough. Then I went back to practicing; tail in, left side in, tail in, right side in, nose in. By the 3rd pack I was able to hover nose in for about 30 seconds. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tion/party.gif I am charging my packs again right now and will probably give it another go later tonight. |
RE: axe cp thread
Thanks BoysToys, appreciate it. The tail boom seems to the weekest point on the heli.
Tex hope you plan on spending $500-$650 for a good set up. |

RE: axe cp thread
Did we ALL bend the tail boom today??? I got mine because for some reason decided to play with the idle up. Not a good idea at my stage of hovering. It sure drops fast even if it is only a foot off the ground when you pull the left stick back fast! I get the dumb***** of the day award!!!

RE: axe cp thread
Hey Folks.. some more interesting tips for the N00bie Axe drivers...
Went to one of my LHS's, and caught the Heli-guy behind the counter, pitchin a sale of another AxeCP to some customer... five minutes into the sale pitch, and he grabs a stock AxeCP out of the glass case, puts it on the floor, and pulls it into a hover. SNAP. Says he's been flying his BladeCP for about two years now. Tells me to bring in my Axe out of the car and he'll take it for a spin for diag purposes. He trimmed out my radio for me and showed me a few tricks for stability, not to mention that he picked up on a blade tracking issue that I didn't see before.. Notes for others: Turn the throttle trim ALL the way down and keep it down until you master hover... maybe bring it up a little, otherwise KEEP IT DOWN. I notice that there's a 3D CF tailfin available as an option for the Axe CP. Thx BoysToys for the coupon codes. :) After the tuneup, I literally hovered my way through a whole LiPo. [8D] Soooooo sweet! |
RE: axe cp thread
That's absolutely wrong, throttle trim should be half way during flight.....

RE: axe cp thread
nzak that idle up switch is a bisach. I was on the ground the other day when I hit it. The heli pins to the floor so hard the blades start to pitch on there own form the force. Figured thats what was going to happen. I twists the blades to force air up instead of down for being upside down.
I held the heli in my hand upside down to see something. Hit the idle up and she was prety stable when inverted. |
RE: axe cp thread
Oh my gods I can't leave you guys alone for minute!! :D
First TEX, then r/cheliman, then nzak... I decided not to fly today - a little too windy... I feel like an Axe just whizzed over MY head! Instead spent the morning walking with the wife in the park, thinking "hmm, I could fly it HERE,... or maybe HERE..." :D HEY Rotor13B - check out eBay item # 120093899277 I have a complete stock radio, receiver, and servo (the good ones, HS-55 no name clones) set for sale - current bid $19. Oh BTW - I put in Spektrum radio from the get-go (oh, crap, here it comes), and... I programmed out the Idle Up function. I figured it was too dangerous while I was learning... heheh |
