Yes, The solder connections are some times "cold welded" and don't make a sufficient bond to the connectors which will over time fatique and break. Some people have had this problem from the get go, Others it didn't show up for a month or so.

Ok guys here is a strange one for ya!
I flew my axe earlier and it flew great.
Very smooth power and went through 2 batt's.

With no harsh landings! Although I do have a high
speed vibrate mostly in idle up due to the pitch on the blades not being equal.

So I went to look at the pitch and plugged in the battery and had NO POWER.
No green light no servo movement. "DEAD"!

I did try different batteries.

With the battery plugged in "dangerous" I wiggled the black and red wire from the battery where
it solders to the ESC and can get it to work if I hold still, but once I move my hand it
looses connection.

Most likely a bad soldering job from factory or a bad wire.

I did notice the connection on the ESC from the battery was very close (NOT GOOD DESIGN)

Has anyone had this problem?
Has anyone had a wire burn up?

Harebear it sounds like I'm having the same problem as you.
Does your green light come on when your motor is running or is the whole thing dead?
I think my problem is the wire (batt to ESC) or the solder joint @ the ESC.

What do you think about the + and - being so close on the ESC?

I don't know about you guys, but the Axe is really a P.O.S. I have said this before but look at all the trouble we are having with our $189.00 purchase. This is just wrong. I have a Blade CP Pro and have never had any of these problems. I purchased the Blade while waiting for my Axe to be returned under warranty. I just wanted to fly.

Q/A at Heli-Max, must be real lax.

I didn't really say that last sentance...did I? LOL

But, really this is serious....isn't it? We are just having too many problems. Think about it......[sm=drowning.gif]

It is frustrating but up to now I've been real happy with it.
I'm getting ready to get a brushless and new ESC, that should fix the problems I hope.
I'm like you. I just want to fly also!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to look at a brushless tail or a home made belt drive so I can scrap the 3 in 1!
Will this work in your opinion?

I think that the the brushless tail would work. Or a belt or gear driven tail would be good. But I would look at the cost. It seems too much for me. There really are better heli's out there for not too much more money. I am ready to write the cost of the Axe off as a learning experience. I just think that anymore upgrades to the Axe would be a waste of money. Save your $ that you would spend on the Axe to upgrade and just get a better heli on your next purchase. After all, we all need to learn on something. When I learned to fly planes I spent way more money just to learn to fly that I have on heli's. Tech has made learning to fly with any airframe much easier than it was 10 years ago.

If you do these upgrades I want to hear just what you have done. I am sure that everyone else will want to hear too.

Oh, I forgot to say...but I really think that the 3-1 board in the Axe is the major problem with this heli. This seems to be a constant problem with the Axe.

My problem seems to be strictly with the main motor. When this happens to me, I still have tail rotor control and as I advance the throttle, the pitch of the blades changes but eeeet nooo speeeens! I unplug the red connector then replug and back to normal.

Have you madeany adjustments to the tx? I remember that my axe motor won't spin unless throttle is at full bottom on the tx, couled your tx be out of adjustment? I am curios about this problem and look forward to you fixing it so if we have the same prob we can find the answer. Inaanswer to rotor13 idea that I use my ps3 controller, I have a usb convertor for xbox cont but I can't seem to get all control actions to corespond to the ones on my tx. I will keep trying.

I haven't done anything other than trim adjustments. It all started after I disconnected that one lead. There is one thing funny about the male half of that motor plug, the spring loaded part that is supposed to holed the ends together moves slightly on the plug. Is this normal? Who knows, maybe I just wasn;t pushing the two ends together enough. Wouldn't it be nice if it were that simple.

I had a bad connection in the bullet connectors from the motor to ESC when I first got mine, I had to resolder it. I'd check there. Mine if I rember right was the positive motor bullet connector from the ESC. Hope this helps, Shaun

Installed first tail motor and ended up with some issues. Sounds slow, ran different. Installed second motor, after grinding some slots in the screws (if you buy a new motor, get the screws too. You will probably ruin them cause they are coated with thread locker).

Took her out in the garage and everything is back to normal. These micro motors have a hard time with 11.1 volts. Just today found Bphobbies.com has 6x12mm motors for about $4. Might be a good replacement instead of $25.

Watch out for heating up the solder too much. Could end up melting the plastic motor end cap.

Bad screws, melting motors, sluggish tail, slow thumbs, fricken wind, everythings working against me!

OK I'm really mad now!
The first cp I had had bad electronics right out of the box.
My LHS took it back and sent off to helimax and gave me a new one. (COOL of the LHS)
My second one flew great till today. The damn ESC was was having short problem I thought.
So I re-soldered the batt connection to the esc (which was a *****) then at the exact moment I got done
the damn mini deans plug on the end of the lead from the esc just came apart right there in my hand.
FOUND THE FREAKIN PROBLEM! So I fixed that and plug the batt in to check how it worked and the ESC just smoked!
I saw the flash! I guess the wires that I soldered touched or something?
Dead, DOA, nothing!!!

So The hole problem was an easy fix of replacing the deans plug which was faulty from the start and now I have to
buy a damn board and there $75. This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I got to go and e-mail helimax and vent.
They better replace it or I'm done with them!

I'm also interested if anyone has any info on going brushless.
I have a motor, but how does the tail get power without the stock board? Do I still need it?

To go seperates you will need a brushless motor and esc, A brushed micro esc such as the Electrifly C-12 or equivelent and a gyro. Alot people including myself use the GY-240 gyro because it can be setup to work using the stock transmitter. The GY-401 has/requires remote gain which means you would need a new TX to use it. I've been running one of my Axes with separates using a esky outrunner and esc plus what I mention earlier and it works fine. You do have to worry about lipo cutoff using the C-12 though because it will cutout and leave you without tail control. But if you are using lipos then you already know you should be timing your flights and landing before that becomes an issue anyway. Still, To be on the safe side or at least avoid a crash check out the pixie 7 micro esc. The cutoff can apparently be adjusted to your liking. I actually witnessed the cutoff and luckily I was only 4-5 feet off the ground so I was able to get it down without damage. If I had been if foward flight it would have been a crash most likely. Again, If you time your flights you won't have any issues using the C-12 esc.

Now, I'm not sure this is an exact replacement. It says 9 ohms and I don't know what the resistence is in the original motor.

Looks about the same except for missing the slot.

PilotLight the Axe's tail motor is 12mm in diameter and 30mm long. It looks like the pager motor is much smaller with a 6mm diameter and 12mm long.
