I'm all ready looking into that battery. How long does the factory battery last? Trust me I plane on going VERY SLOW with this.

TP 1320's are the best, but the DN Power or Mega Power 1350mA 15C packs work great too and their half the price!

Helidirect has the megapower lipo's and also has a fairly reasonable align charger/balancer for a little over $50. The megapower batteries there are already set up to work with the align charger. Just get some deans mini plugs and solder'em on. ready to roll!

Stock battery gets about four to five minutes of hop huvering, and about three minutes on a constant hover.

Attention children!!! I have found the solution to taming the big hairy beast known to us all as the AxeCP!!!!!! Being an RTF means that corners get cut to save money on the end product. This is one robust heli however look at the radio.... hmmm a very basic radio with some eCCPM firmaware built into it.

Lets take my experience for example: I got a TRex and installed the AxeCP radio with my old Piccolo receiver. While running the Axe radio I noticed that the TRex was extremely responsive to the point of barely being able to control it. In fact it felt like a really big AxeCP!!!!

So I go out and bankrupt myself on a DX6. Used the settings called out in the TRex manual and guess what? The TRex screamed and flew all over the place. Dumbed down the throttle and pitch curves and added some expo to the aileron and elevator to soften them up and now I can hover the TRex within 10" off the ground without much of a hassle!!!! Try hovering the Axe with the stock radio anwhere withing 2 feet of the ground and trust me that you are in for a fight!!

Now I wish I still had my AxeCP just so I can set up the DX6 to fly it. I bet that a stock AxeCP would be a dream to fly with a DX6 or Futaba 6EXH even using the stock 3-in-1 as opposed to a separate gyro!!!

In short, the cure for an Axe wound? A better radio.

Yes, the Axe flies sooo much smoother with a better radio.
I have a DX7, switched out the stock receiver with an AR6100 and kept the stock 3n1.

After the installation of the better radio equipment, I could hover side-in and nose-in with relative ease thanks to some Expo. Never was able to do that with the stock TX. Transition from Normal to Idle was smoother too using the Throttle and Pitch Curves. If you can, invest in a good computer radio. You won't regret it.

I think that I would still add a HH Gyro though. I was still fighting the tail more than I liked. [&o]

That's my biggest gripe about the Axe, tail control. And because of this, I am moving on to a belt tail heli. Don't get me wrong the Axe is a good heli. It's even better with a good radio and a HH gyro. But for me, I would rather invest my money on a non-motorized tail machine.

Hey WRX it just so happens that Freestyle Hobby has a belt drive tail conversion coming out in about a month. I've been looking at CP tail helis as well, but I want to stay with or close to the Axe's rotor diameter so finding one has been a challenge.



ATB, when my AXE was totally stock I had no problem hovering steady a couple inches off the ground as long as it was tail-in. All my hovering was done IGE because the basement has a low ceiling. I did have a problem with side-in though, but not because of ground effect. It was hard to chase the tail while attempting side-in. After the 240 went in with the BL set-up I was still using the stock Tx with no problems. Side-in tail-in IGE no problem. I like having to barly move my fingers to control the cyclic. In fact my 7CHP felt numb compared to the Axe. So I increased cyclic sensativity.

I have one and really like it! I did go BL and 2.4Ghz on the King which helps!

I figure it'll be around $70-80. I think that's what the other conv. kits cost. I didn't ask when I emailed him though. Actually I was surprised they had one in the works so close to release.


That's funny. The V2 is the same heli I mentioned in post #985. Great minds think alike and all that.[sm=idea.gif]

As I said in that previous post though parts support is sketchy. I saw it at Helidirect. They carry some of the parts, but it seems like the rest weren't available. I read some of the King V2 thread at RG Groups which seems to support this too. After the blade grips shortage with the Axe there's no way I'd buy another heli without abundant parts support

True, very true. Parts support is a major consideration. I'm just hoping that, in time, parts will be readily available. So, in the meantime, I'm being very careful! ;)

Replacing the Main Rotor Gear, justed stripped all of the teeth off it. OOOOOPPPPPPSSSS :D What are you going to do. Who has the trick. I am getting hung-up on the Canopy Mount. It looks like it is glued to the main frame. Any help would be great. This things is a blast.

Riders in flint has gears 6-7 bucks and a few other parts Hobbytown doesn't really carry but the will order

Hm...I seem to have extra parts trying to put my Axe back together... :D

I took out the main shaft and two rings came loose. It's either the collar or the bushing - not sure which. It's part number 30 and/or 25. *shrug* Their circumference is too big to fit inside the bearing and I'm not sure if it should be on top of the bearing or hang below. Anybody have any idea? Anybody have any idea what I'm talking about? :D

Those are shaft collars. One goes just under the upper bearing inside the top of the frame and the other goes above the lower bearing between the main gear and bottom of frame. The are supposed to ride snug against their respective bearings. These prevent any unwanted up/down mainshaft movement which would cause unwanted pitch changes.

Well folks I think my 3 in1 is dead. I was flying today and had to adjust my tail trim all the way to the right to keep the tail steady. So I adjusted to bottom knob on the 3 in 1 then my heli started acting crazy. The trim pots on the 3 in 1 are not doing anything and my heli is almost impossible to control. I have gone from flying circles to fighting to keep from crashing into the ground.

How are Hobby Services about replacing the 3 in1 board? I will call on Monday and see what they say. If they don't replace it under warranty I don't know what I will do. I don't think that I can bring myself to spend $80 on a new one when I can put that $$ toward the T-Rex I want. I am thinking of just parting it out and saving my money until I can affort the T-Rex. In the mean time just keep practicing on Real Flight.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ation/rant.gif I really wish that I would be that easy. However, I just replaced that tail motor a couple of weeks ago after it died on me. It flew fine for me earlier today then whe I went out tonight things really took a turn for the worse. I was barely able to keep the thing in the sky. The problem has to either be the receiver or the 3in1. Since the adjusting pots are not responding at all, and the receiver was just replaced 2 months ago, my money is on the 3in1. I just don't know if I can bring myself to spend $85 to get this bird back in the air. If I am going to continually drain my bank account, I would at least like to be able to fly in a steady breeze. Waiting for it to be dead calm outside and then chasing the tail around is starting to get old.

Ohh well I am taking the family camping at the beach tomorrow and won't be home until Monday. I will call Hobby Services and see what they have to say. Who knows maybe there will be alot of good Axe parts and 3 TP1320 lipos for sale of Ebay Monday night. You know I was thinking BT. I don't see a problem with Hobbico covering the 3-in-1 under warranty, but this could be a good time to upgrade to a GY240 with a Pixie 7. If the main motor is still working then the 3-in-1 could stand in for a main motor ESC. The difference in flight control is huge. It does cost more money, but the gyro can go to the next size heli unlike the $85 3-in-1 which can't.

Doing this in conjunction with get a replacement 3-1 sounds the most feasable if you ask me. You could get a 400/450 class brushless motor and esc and reap the benefits of going brushless, Plus when you decide to upgrade to say a mx400 take that equipment off the Axe and replace it with the stock 3-1 and sell it to recoup some money for your new heli.
