RE: axe cp thread

I am working through installing some upgrades. I have the HS-55's installed and am working on wringing out the rigging. I found using the horns that came with the HS-55's don't line up in the center of the servo with the trims in neutral. And for some reason the instructions in the manual for rigging aren't working for me either. I also used 2-56 threaded rod for the pushrods. The stock ballends fit it okay. Had to drill out the longer ends a little bit. After I fly it a while, I will then install the GY240 and ESC.

We'll see how is goes!

I must have done something right. My AXE #2 flies great no. I swapped out the 3-in-1 for my other 3-in-1 and it is a nice hovering machine. I flew it and I have to raise the gain a touch but other then that, it was a fun flight. I am looking forward to seeing how well it flies with a HH gyro and a DD tail. I have heard it is a nice flying helicopter after that, for a motor driven tail, that is.

Just so you know you can still use the stock radio.

I should have clarified my statement better. What I mean is you can still use the stock radio, The 3-1 unit is a seperate from the receiver but you will still need a gyro and servo. This is also good because the pitch/throttle curves are stored in the radio, Not the 3-1 or receiver. Also it will take some of the frustration out of figuring out proper pitch curves and make setup easier when you first get it all together. I'm using a GY240 and hs-56hb servo and it works fine.

No the gyro will plug into the receiver channel 4. Also your going to need a brushed esc 20-25 amp for the main motor. That will plug into where the 3-1 used to be plugged in.

Axe-cp tailboom alternative:

Esky tailbooms ( part [link=http://www.rc-spareparts.com/ek10563-8317mm-tail-boom-set-p-684.html]EK1-0563[/link] ) packet of TWO for 6 USD.
The original ones are 12 USD for ONE piece, so a quarter of the price. And they look nice too ...

They fit 100%, no mods/hacks needed.

HELP!!! I am working on a basket case AXE, and I need help with the receiver. Looking at the AXE from the front, 1 servo on the left side and on the right side one servo towards the back, and one in front. From the top of the receiver, (where the antenna comes out), to the bottom are 6 plugs (channels). I realize the 3 N 1 plugs into one of them and also a single pin connector, (gyro?), that plugs in somewhere. Anyone out there give me a basic description of which plug goes where? Many thanks in advance!

Stock Configuration

Ch 1 - Right side servo - Aileron
Ch 2 - Front servo - Elevator
Ch 3 - ESC 3 in 1 - Throttle
Ch 4 - ESC single pin Orange wire plug, in furthest left pin only (white connector)
Ch 5 – Not used
Ch 6 - Left side servo - Pitch

The plugs must have the black wire toward the front of the heli, and you should see the shiny metal pins in the plug slots facing upward.

edit: If this looks familiar to anyone, I copied it from a previous post.

You can replace Broken balls on main rotor grips and Stabilizer control hubs by drilling a 1/16" hole and attaching a [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSNP9&P=7]HMXE7310 Ball Stud [/link] with a [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSNP8&P=7]HMXE7309 2X6.5mm screw[/link] and loctite.

Thanks for the suggestion, I hate breaking those but I am afraid of how far I can "McGuiver" my helo and not ending up killing the neighbor's dog.

RE: axe cp thread

I just replaced my 3 in 1 board in my Axe CP and now it only operates at full throttle and then only intermittently, like on for 1/2 second, off for 2, on, off, on, off, etc. I get no throttle response unless the transmitter throttle lever is all the way up, nothing in between. This affects both the main and tail motors. I do have servo response, both fine and full control movements. The LiPO battery is fully charged, the transmitter batteries are new, all connections are tight and correct, no kinked wires or broken connections. This board is a direct replacement part from Heli-Max and as you all know they're not inexpensive so I want to exhaust all avenues before I go out and buy another one. Unfortunately I don't think the vendor will exchange this one due to their policy of "No Returns On Electronics", a standard clause. However, I have tried and we'll see if they stand behind the product. I believe the ESC part of the new board is defective.

Help from you experts please.

Thanks,

N7115T

FUNNY STORY(sort of),
I own an axe cp and a friend gave me an eflight sabre cause he lost patience. If any one out there is thinking of getting one i would not recommend it. I must have had interference cause it went out of control, struck tail, lost tail rotor and did the chiken dance of death straight at me about knee hieght. After it calmed down I took one step towards it as a friend was walking past and the heli started to try and attack her. Not wanting to let her get hurt (and relieving some heli related frustration) I crushed it under my size 9 steel toed boot. All the servos and motors still work so now I am looking for a small project to put them in. I anyone has any ideas please let me know. maybe a hover craft? small car with water pump?

...only operates at full throttle and then only intermittently, like on for 1/2 second, off for 2, on, off, on, off, etc....
These work on a pulse system. In other words, your motor speed isn't actually controlled by how much voltage it receives. Full volt pulses are sent to your motor in (probably) around 600 micro second pulses. The pulse is broken down into part full voltage, and part zero voltage. So, let's say that at 1/2 throttle the motor received 200 micro seconds of full voltage, and 400 micro seconds at zero volts. As your approach full throttle, these pulses get reversed. So you may have 400 microseconds full voltage and 200 at zero.
This is called pulse width modulation, or PWM.
Since your motor seems to be running in pulses that have gone haywire, I'd assume your 4in1 or 3in1 is faulty. This doesn't mean that there isn't some other problem or something you're doing wrong, but it doesn't look good.

RE: axe cp thread

I rather assumed that it was the 3 in 1 that was faulty as everything else seems check out. Now, if they'll only exchange it for a new one.

Hi Guys, I own 2 helimax cp choppers and I would like to know if anyone has a good idea on tail rotors, the stock rotors just seem to break with the slightest contact ,do they make a hop up kit with collapsable blades?

Hey Ron.
Blade CP and CPPro by EFlite, use a tail rotor that is almost identical to our Axe's. It has a thicker root and made from stronger plastic. I get mine from heli direct because my LHS doesnt stock Eflite brand.

Thanks for the info,My new Axe cp is on its way, crashed #1 friday so bad e-board burnt, other problems too,but now I dont know if I am making a mistake,Is the blade cp a better chopper? It looke great at xheli.com What do you think Thanks

RE: axe cp thread

As far as the Axe compared to the Blade....I'll stick with the axe. most of the parts, with a few exceptions are much more durable. For instance notice the landing gear on the Blade, It seems a bit spindly to me. I now have 5 axes in various states of construction. I bought my original from Tower Scratch and Dent. It was a returned model and was completely refurbished. The next one I bought complete on eBay for under $100, graet buy.:D The other three I have pieced together from spare parts from some frugal eBay bidding. Seems I have an entire fleet, LOL.
The next step up in my opinion is Align's T-Rex 450 or one of the clones. I just got my CopterX (trex 450 clone) yesterday. I think the Blade CP is a step sideways or down from the Axe. I know some will disagree, but thats just my $.02

Thanks for your .02 I was thinking about returning the AXE when it shows up ,but I had #1 for a year with minor problems, mostly blades, but I can use it for parts or maybe rebuild it someday, do know where I can get a E-BOARD cheap? Thanks again

Search eBay for "Helimax". there are 2 or three up for auction right now. I have paid as little as $30 including the shipping. The trick is to be patient. Some one is always selling their bird or parts.

On another note. Some thing to consider is the bell hiller head upgrade. I adapted some more of the Blade CPP head parts (compliments of Heliko's genius) to get a BH head. I would have a problem going back to just the stock hiller style head. The struggle to hover just seemed to go away with the upgrade.

RE: axe cp thread

Hi all I've been lurking for ages and my Axe CP has been a royal hangar queen, especially now since I am getting proficient at flying my new TREX450SEV2. Axe was a great bash and fix learning heli, and did the job much better than I am sure a Blade CP would have. Very thin, light and flimsy that Blade CP. Axe has more beef, needed to withstand newbie abuses.

The TREX is sweet because it responds so accurately to the sticks inputs. It runs and flies like a swiss watch, very smooth and tight, plenty of power and stability. I can let go of the right stick and just tap it around a bit to hover and smoothly cruise around. And she is very controllable despite some decent wind. Wind was always a death threat to my Axe. I've got about 20 flights on her now and am getting able to relax and just fly a bit! Woot!

Prolly I'll let go my of trusty Axe which is highly hopped up wth Gy240 gryo, full separates with brushless main motor and (DD) tail motor. Plus I'll be including tons of spare parts / crash repair kits, some aluminum CNC head bits, a couple sets of main rotor blades and some other goodies... I'll post up when I get it ready for eBay... Great model I still love it but this one needs a new home now!
