RE: axe cp thread
can't seem to get the Axe to work with the eclipse radio. Tried using the phase shift, nothing at all happened, no response. Tried putting the collective to the top of the travel on the tx in case it was reversed, motor disconnected of course, and still nothing. Any ideas?

RE: axe cp thread
Tony, do you mean the 4in1 doesn't even arm?
You tried pos. and neg. shift settings. So, is it possilbe that the spectrum modulator isn't set to the right frequency? I hate to be obvious, but sometimes we all forget the simple things. |
RE: axe cp thread
Ok I'll bite. I'm not even sure that I have a "spectum modulator", actually I'm sure I don't. That radio was available when I bought mine, but I opted for the cheaper one. The 4 in 1 board on the heli does arm with the green light blinking initially and then glowing solid green, but the heli does not respond to the radio at all. So I'm still scratching my head. I'm wondering if it needs some special type of crystal?
|
RE: axe cp thread
I'm far from being an expert at radios, but it seems if your 4in1 arms, then the xtal should be OK and you're on the right channel. I could be wrong, but this is normally true. If I had an Axe CP I could help more, but I don't, and I don't know if there's something special about it's 4in1.
Hopefully, someone else will help out. |
RE: axe cp thread
Anybody know if the Eflite 3 in 1 from the CP PRO will work on the Axe Cp. It's cheaper.

RE: axe cp thread
I've been having this problem for a little while now and don't know the cause. When I lift up and try to hover (about 5ft), the axe doesn't hold it's altitude very well. It will move up and down about 3-4 inches every few seconds. Sometimes it will stay steady and then suddenly drop. I fly in an indoor track and there isn't any air current that would seem to be the culprit. I don't know if it's a ground effect or what. I was running it at nearly full throttle on a fresh nimh pack and it was only slightly climbing. Any ideas (or previous post referrals that evaded my search)?
Thanks. |

RE: axe cp thread
I have been following this post for a few weeks, and I highly recommend anyone thinking of getting into the pilots seat of an Axe or any other chopper for that matter, to go back to page one and read every post. There is such a wealth of information here from noob's ,(like me), to the Pro's that have logged many hours. No matter what level you are, the information as well as the camadre of fellow pilots is simply astounding. My second recommendation is to get some kind of simm program. I wrecked my Axe within 2 hours of opening the box, just from ignorance and a lack of patience. I bought a second hand GP 3.5 and lets just say if I had to replace all the parts I "destroyed" in the simm, then it would make the national debt look like peanuts. And another great thing, you can fly-no matter what the weather. Off the soap box and back to the simm. I just wanted everyone that has left a post past, present, and future that you have my eternal gratitude. Thanks so much!

RE: axe cp thread
Need help with radio glitches. Mine is un-flyable do to the glitches. It is sitting there, on, throttle stick all the way down, and about every 20-30 seconds it will blip the throttle and spin the blades. When i do try and hover it, it will bounce around like a cat on a hot tin roof. Up, down, left, right, tail right, left. I have re-routed the antenna and motor leads. Not sure what to think. I have a second AXE on the same channel, 36 and I have swapped the RX's and TX's and it still does it. Both have the same glitch. That sort of rules out the RX and TX. It gets bad when it slams into the ground from 3 feet up and you have full throttle and it acts like it is in idle up and drives into the ground.
This is driving me crazy. I know it is a short trip. But I want to fly and this radio glitch is killing my wallet and stability. Any ideas will be looked into. I am sending an email to Hobby Services to see what they say. Thanks. Dru. |
RE: axe cp thread
Do you have any metal to metal contact on the heli? This will sometimes cause interference. Any "rubbing" of metal causes glitches.
Mine had bad solder joints inside the heat shrink at the connections going to the main motor. The wire was just resting inside the connector held by the plastic coating around the wire shoved into the brass connector. |

RE: axe cp thread
I got tired of wrestling with the aft canopy mounts on my axe, so I glued 8mm rare earth magnets to the mount rod and the canopy.
So far it works very well, the magnets hold it tightly in place. I left the front mount the way it was. The canopy is tilted forward, this allows room for a larger battery. RE: axe cp thread
I got a box of these rare earth cell phone thingies - you put a metal plate on the cell phone, and the attach the magnet to the dash of the car, and mount the phone there - well, I work in a building with metal walls, so I brought a bunch of these in to hold stuff to the wall - I swear, when I snap one to the wall, I have to use a screwdriver to pry it off!!!! They are the most powerful magnets I have ever had, and I have played around a lot. Weird thing, there is a copper placed disk on one side of the magnets, and there is ABSOLUTELY no magnetic properties getting through that disk!

RE: axe cp thread
For anyone interested, if you go to the Heli-Max website, (www.helimax-rc.com), there is some information and pictures showing how to remove the blade grips on a Heli-Max. Would have saved me some time and effort if I had seen this site first. Not everyone knows you have to have a wrench or screwdriver through both grips to remove them. Or removing the bearings. Got that tip from an earlier post. (THANKS ALLEN!)
FYI, I purchased a Heli-Max Blade Balancer(New) off eBay, and none of the 4 blade mounting plates fits the holes on my blades. I fired off a letter to Heli Max and I will report back with what they have to say about the balancer. I really don't want to ream the holes on my blades because they fit so well on the blade grips. Anyone else had a problem like this? Thanks, Sling Blade |
RE: axe cp thread
1chibear, I have the same balancer. it does not fit the stock holes on the AXE blades. I just sanded down the pins in the plastic holder to fit the holes in the blades.
Well I made some progress today. I know there is no mechanical binding issues that would cause this glitch. I know it is electronic. I was sitting there yesterday and plugged the battery in, I went to put on the body and the blades spun up. Just enough to get a couple of rev out of it. I did feel it on my knuckles. I moved the 3 in 1 to the left hand side. I held it in place with a small strip of double sided tape. I charged the battery. I plugged the battery in, no glitch as I put on the body. I pick it up and take it out side. No glitches. So far so good. I put it down and wait a couple of minutes. No glitches. I think I have it. Well in my glitch fogged mind, I moved the 3 in 1 so that the front is pointing down. That changed the way the gyro is positioned. Well I lifted off and the tail was all over the place. I ended up breaking the tail rotor again. I do not have a spare. I will pick up one tomorrow, or should I say every one they have. I may have it fixed if I can position the 3 in 1 board the correct way. I sure hope I get some flights in this weekend. Thanks. Dru. |
RE: axe cp thread
Thanks Dru. I have had my Axe several weeks now. Like an ijit I charged up the battery and thought I would try a couple of hops in the basement. The 1st hop was from the floor to the celing in about .00005 seconds. I negleted to find out which way the idle switch was to be thrown. So, a little red faced I repaired the ceilng and ordered spare parts and a flight simulator. Parts are still in the box. I need some serious time with the sim.
Good luck on your electrical gremlins! Sometimes it is the simplest thing-other times it ends up being the last part you replace. As for the blade balancer, I guess I also will have to get the sandpaper out. Seems kind of odd the blades and balancer are the same brand and yet they don't work together. Oh well.... Sling Blade |

I had the same problem as you describe. I sent mine back and got a new one under the warranty. However, after flying the new one for a while the problem returned. I am not "slamming" the Axe but I think it is a flaw in the aircraft. I switched to a DX7 transmitter/receiver and it still is jumpy at altitude. It is a decent bird to learn on but I think I will have to go up in quality to get a more stable bird.

Idle hands...
A foot and half of snow, with winds gusting up to 60 mph, making 5 and 6 foot drifts. Batteries on the charger. I was reading through the forums and came across a post that showed an axe frame that had been painted yellow. And I thought to myself..why not. So I dug into the spare part bin, pulled out 2 frame halves, swash stay and tail fin. Two coats of white appliance enamel and 2 coats of red later, the new Axe was being born. Back to the parts bin. It seems I had everything except the main motor and 3 in 1 board to completely build a heli from scratch. Off to eBay for electronics and motor. Now my modified axe has a little brother. Just test flew red. I need to dial in the gyro gain some but no other bad habits. I can already tell I need to get a pair of new plastic or cf blades, the woodies kinda suck. |
RE: axe cp thread
That red shows up nice. I'll bet it helps with orientations.

RE: axe cp thread
Well I am a happy camper. This is the first flight I have done in almost 3 weeks that did not cost me at least $5.00 for a tail rotor.
I flew the whole battery with no major slam dunk glitches. It was a little gusty where I was flying but not bad. The tail does get blown around a little because of the rate mode gyro. I did find that the canopy catches a lot of air. I may end up covering the vertical tail to make it catch more air. That way it would blow the helicopter to the side ans not try to spin it so much. I think I may get some time on it now that it does not flop like a fish out of water. I have the 3 in 1 on the out side of the frame down even with the center of the battery, the main motor wire have been moved to the left. The Rx is alone on top. The antenna is attached to the vertical tail with a cut off piece of servo arm. It flies pretty well for being so small. I do like it now. I was about ready to use it as a hammer. Now I think I will have lots of fun. Dru. |
RE: axe cp thread
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rob ad I am a new owner of the axe cp-l. This is my first heli and I am as the rest have said, an addict. I have read thru all 72 pages and have gained a lot of knowledge. I have had 2 batteries of fly time and enjoyed every minute of it. On battery 3 I got a little brave and took it up to 3 feet and a gust of wind came and slammed the little guy into the ground. Replaced the main blade grip that broke. Now it is time to go back to hovering since I don't want to replace any other parts. I really love the R/C community and all that it has to offer
|
RE: axe cp thread
Welcome Rob,
One thing you will realise: the more spare parts you have on hand, the less you crash. Might as well stock up cause crashing is part of learning. Soon you'll be flying for weeks without replacing parts. Practice practice practice. |
RE: axe cp thread
AXE one is bone stock. I have re-arranged the Rx and 3-in-1 to fight electrical glitches. It still does the climb, drop thing that so many other AXEs do. I found that one servo was was loose and sloppy in the gears. I have replaced all stockers with HS-55's. I will see how it does with those in place of the stock ones. I have 3 flights on it without any major crunch.
Axe #2 is all separates. I'm waiting for my 240 to show up. I will replace the stock servos in it with some Airtronics 94091 9gram micros and see how they do. I am also replacing the servo links with ball links on both ends to see if I can get rid of some slop. I am also replacing the stock arms with the Dubro heavy duty arms. I have a linkage set on order and will see how it fits. I ordered the metal balls and the 2X7mm screws along with the M2 nuts for the servo arms. Should be a good flyer after all of this. I did have a real good first flight with my MX450. That is a nice bird. It flies so smooth right off the ground. It is a great flying cruiser. Dru. |
