Default HFP-10 Programmer

I purchased a used programmer a month or so ago. I also purchased 6 new digital servos (HS5645s) in January 2006. I was told by someone at Hitec that I could use my programmer (V1.03) to program the old servos and the new 1.04 servos. I had some trouble yesterday programming one of my servos, so I called Hitec again and spoke to Marty. He said my V1.03 programmer will not work with the newer servos. There is informatoin on the forum that says the V1.04 programmer is backwards compatible to V1.03 servos. What happens when you program a 1.04 (new servo) with a 1.03 programmer? Can someone sort this out for me?

The HP-10 Programmer is as you note compatible with v1.03 revision servos. However if used with v1.04 revision servos there is a problem, in most cases all is well with the exception of the programmed parameters are realized with approxiamtely 2-3* deviation. That said I'd highly recommend sending the Programmer to Hitec Service for a free firmware update to revision v1.04.

When you turn on the Programmer, watch the display and note if a revision number is displayed subsequent to start-up.

Hitec just updated my programmer to v1.04 and returned the unit . The whole whole thing took 7 days including ground shipping both ways. Great job by Hitec. When I turn it on, the screen says "HITEC" on one line and "HFP-10" on the second line. No version number shows. Is this what I should see? ALso, I tried to reset 2 different 5645 servos. I selected reset, then pushed up and down together. The screen then showed that the reset was successful. However, unlike with V1.03 where the servo moved 90 degrees from center one direction and then 90 degrees from center the other direction, neither servo moved at all. IS this what I should expect? BOth servos are new and had been programmed with my programmer and v1.03 firmware before.

No revision number referecne indicates that revision v1.04 software is loaded.

The "RESEST" function as described is correct NOW and dffers as noted with v1.03 equipped programmers.

Will Hitec come out with a manual update that reflects the changes?

Got my new programmer yesterday and the manual is up to date. Even mentions the updated parts of the instructions in highlighted sidebars. Good job Hitec!
