I am doing my final setup prior to maidening my 35% Panzl and noticed an odd phenomenon on the elevators (I haven't gotten to the ailerons yet and the rudder being pull is like dampened).

It should be said that these are my first 5955s and my first Synth RXs. I have been flying Multiplex IPD crystalled in the past, and I have been flying 8611A servos... very smooth, though sloppy. Anyway...

If I go full stick very quickly the servo run from stop to stop just like it should.

If I take about 1/2 second from stop to stop it seems like the servos stops momentarily at each posistion in between the stops... the net result is that the surface looks like it is vibrating through the travel. Very strange. The transmitter makes other servos work smoothly.

Setup:
1 5955 per elevator half
Each servo plugged into a different RX
RXs are new Multiplex 9ch Synth IPD RXs (The say software 1.21 on them)
JR 10X TX
6.0V regulated power
ATVs at +/- 127% on both servos
Servos were not programmed at all, except to narrow the deadband to "1"

UPDATE:

I plugged the programmer into the servo and ran it as the same speed I was using on the TX... the same "vibration" or "stepping" is there, though not quite as harsh. I am guessing it is not as harsh due to the lower voltage and speed? I guess I can rule out RX and TX and attribute the trait directly to the servo... normal???

Also... that 127% travel is getting me 35 degrees of throw... well better than 1:1.

I haven't noted the odd behavior you noted above.

FWIW: I always "RESET" all my servos when I program with the Programmer in play. I can't say weather or not this is your problem, but it’s worth a try.

I got the ailerons going too... they do the same thing. It's almost like the servos are too fast and they are gettting to their next position and starting to stop before they get the signal to go past that.

I flew the plane today for the first time. The 5955s and the IPD RXs felt great. Incredible range check (even with 2 RX)... I finally ran out of room to walk!!! Sweet!!!

Also... the tail didn't even vibrate when the motor was running... VERY tight servos!!! Sweet!

I am seeing this exact same thing. When I move the stick for my elevators quickly through the full range of motion, the movement is smooth. When I slow down and give just one direction, either up or down, I get a pronounced stepping vibration. The ailerons will do it as well but not as noticeable. I flew the plane last week and everything was fine but like sillyness I am used to 8611's being smoother.

My elevators move freely and my mechanical set up is 1 to 1 with 130% travel. Do I have an issue?

Mike - Any further ideas on this? I reset the servos with the programmer but no help. Do they need to be sent in?

I'm going to try and replicate the behavior described above, I'll advise ASAP.

I’ll utilize a MPX IPD and Futaba PCM RX together with a 9Z TX…

Over on Flying Giants quite a few folks have also commented on the noticeable stepping apparent on their 5955TGs.

It's also been said that the effect of the stepping is not noticeable in the air.

I was wondering if I got a couple of bad 5955's so I got 2 more from my LHS and installed them in my elevators. They also exhibit this "stepping". I again checked my surfaces for binding etc and found they move easily. They have not affected flying but if you were to listen to this noise it sounds loud and awful.

Mike - I'd like to know if you have been able to replicate this vibration or "stepping". I am running JR 945 receiver not Futaba by the way.

I simply haven't had the time to perform my tests yet, maybe later today. I don't have any input on the possibility of your servos being ill, as others are suggesting similar behavior too without problematic behavior.

I don't recall this stepping syndrome in our models. Perhaps observing the servo(s) working on the bench, in a protractor jig and installed in a stab while affecting user specific parameters will reveal something.

I have 2 5955's on my 50cc Yak elevators... -overkill!!!- each is on a separate channel of a Futaba 9 ch. pcm rx -slaved- . I have not noticed any stepping or slowing and both operate in perfect union. I will be duplicating this setup on a 50cc Extra... hope it still works as well.
