Three questions:
1. Is Hi-Tec planning any larger digitals? The HS-5735 is too small by about half. We need about 300 actual oz-in. We are experimenting with the HS-5735 board with a HS-815 motor & gear train. Results not in. We are prototyping right now but hope to be manufacturing in moderate quantities in two years.
2. Do the digitals have a motor protection circuit that shuts off current if the draw gets too high? (they seem to).

Not at this time. You could probably get away with running it on 7.2V for the extra power you need but it will reduce the life of the servo.
No, there is no motor protection. At least, not that I know of.
Mike.
