Im shocked!!
I got my brand newPlastic big bore shocksinfrom ebay today. The were pulled off of a brand new 2011 Savage X 4.6. I was running stock Savage X8 shock setup with brand new seals, orings through outwith 40 weight oil and and stock black springs. I still had so so handling and a lot of roller over.I thenswitched to 25 weight oil. Still alot of roll over. Today I installed the new plastic big bores and put on Bad Horsie shock socks (keep my investmest new and clean). OMG!!, the improvement was unfreaking believable. Huge, Hugeimprovent in handling and almost zero roll over, unlessI was running stupid fast and turning. This is a "MUST"for all Savage X or XL owners. 42 dollars with shipping and9 bucks (free shipping) for the shocksocks from Bad Horsie, not fun to put on shock socksuntil you figure out thetrick. You should be sure and file tips of shocksprings smoothto remove any risk of snagging and tearing shock boots.I also bought a hpi sway bar kit. I will install it in a day or so, that should help even more. Should i use stiff sway bar shaft or medium?? What does everyone think?

RE: Im shocked!!
How does it sit a bit low. I measured Plastic big bores. The are exactly same length170mm extended just like stock 8 shocks?

lol the only reson u get better handling is because these shocks make the truck a bit low

RE: Im shocked!!
You get similar results removing spacers on the 8 setup
Or at least I did
I'll be stating with the 8 shock setup, as I find it works fine, and I like how it looks (makes the truck look meaner IMO)

RE: Im shocked!!
Mine do not rub all....even with steering mod.
SWAY BAR kit.....Opinions medium or stiff. Gonna try stiff up front and Medium in rear today.....hmmm that sounded a little sexual..my bad...lol.
Big Bores own stock 8 shocks by far!!!

Big Joes......you are asking for troublewith those giant tires......shorten your servo throw a bit......the Big Joes look awesome but such a huge bog down for the truck....IMHO..

RE: Im shocked!!
I just got my big bores off ebay today and installed them on my savage 25....they are pretty damn good lol. Handles a lot better and with less roll over in turns that the normal 8 shock setup induce.
But did anyone notice that they are "bouncy" right out of the package? I dunno what weight oil is in them but when I drop the truck from 4 ft or so, it will absorb the drop, rebound back up, then settle to ride height.
My 8 shock setup didn't (well not as much)...but I think I has 45 wt oil in my 8 shocks.
Advice? Maybe throw in heavier oil?
The other thing is the plastic sleeve that is between the two springs doesn't seem to slide on the shock body well enough. Like they need to be opened up slightly to give a little less friction. And it seems you can't take out the shock spacers because then the springs will be too short and anytime you pick the truck up or jump it when the shocks are fully extended, the bottom springs will come out of their spring cups at the bottom...
I mean they work great out of the package and installed, just things I noticed.

RE: Im shocked!!
I'll have to double check that. I bought them off ebay and they were not in an original HPI package...I knew that buying them. But could have sworn I felt and heard fluid in them....guess i'll break one open tomorrow and see.

RE: Im shocked!!
There is some oil in my shocks. I got them "used" apparently, but they are like new anyways. Just feel the oil should be thicker to prevent that bounce.
