Default Need to replace my spur gear . .

The stock spur gear on my Savage 25 RTR needs to be replaced. It's starting to shear. (It binds now and then when you freewheel it backwards.)

Do you recommend Aluminum or go with the stock nylon?

Thanks.

i stick with plastic or nylon spurs, keep your mesh right and you wont have any trouble. i also use a piece of plastic bag, like from an hpi part to set my gear mesh. the plastic usually measures in the .005" to .006" range where they tell you to use a piece of paper that only provides .003" clearance which in my opinion is too small and the spur heats up too much and becomes very prone to stripping. i run some pretty hot motors and unless i get something that loosens up on me i never have a problem. been doing it that way for a long time.

yeah i must agree, avoid full throttle landing, and have correct gear mesh, and the plastics gears are just as good

yea, never land full throttle. thats how you bend dogbones also. and you put alot of stress on your drivetrain.

cut a 1/4" wide strip of plastic bag about 3 inches long from a parts bag and crank it in between the clutch bell and the spur gear. hold them towards each other while tightening your motor mount to set the gear mesh properly
