Hi everybody,
My brother in law and I are wanting to get 2 savages and build a track on his new property. We were talking about them yesterday, and he thinks that the reverse is a must have, and i didn't think so. My way of thinking was that i already have a 2ch radio, so i'd be easily spending 200 extra $ just for the reverse, as i am 16 without a job(yet) that is quite a bunch of money just for reverse. Is it worth it?
I have one more ?, we will be getting kits, most likely, and i really like the paintjob on the body. Do they sell it painted or do i ahve to paint it, it doesn't really matter to me, but if i spend 5$ extra for a painted body vs. painting it myself, i would do it.
heres the body..

i have heard that the reverse adds alot of wait to the truck. i havent got reverse so i cant really comment on that, if you are planning on racing your savage the reverse is not allowed to be used during a race. i was reading a r/c mag and they sed that hpi havnt put reverse on as standerd (like tmaxx) becouse they found that alot of people took the reverse off there trucks for racing or to lighten truck.

since you only have a 2ch,let your bro in law get one and see if he ever uses it where you run first, you can always upgrade later.I got one just because I'm lazy and don't wanna have to go get the truck.

I agree. It is not really needed, but when it gets stuck 75 yards away and you have to walk to it to turn it around, you quickly realize the need for reverse. It doesn't add that much more weight but it will slow your truck down due to the gearing of the reverse. Of course, I have the original Savage with upgrades and the stock 3 channel remote, so it was just a matter of paying $45 and putting it in. If I would have had to spend $200 then I would have waited. Then again, I do have a job, lol.

I like the reverse on mine. I don't plan to race it and it's nice not to have to run all the way across the areas my neighbors and I run them just to get off of something it's stuck on. You can always add it on later.

Its been my experience that you can pick up a stock 3ch radio for under $40 on different auction sites. For $80, reverse may be more of an option when compared to $200.
Then maybe you can turn around and sell your 2ch.
