RE: Stripped Spur Gear
The Throttle linkage should just snap off, as for the spur. after melting 3 regular ones, i went to an aftermarket hardend steel one, make sure you change the bell also, there's kits you can get that have both spur and bell. i didn't change my bell, i thought it would be ok, well my new spur gear CHEWED it up, so i put the clutch bell on that came with the new spur and works like a dream, i also used a little LIthium grease on the spur also.
It's also a good idea to check your cluth when u change the bell, i never thought of it untill i saw how bad mine was.
I got my spur/bell kit at my buddies hobby shop for $31.95 its well worth it, MAKE SURE YOUR MESH IS SET RIGHT!

RE: Stripped Spur Gear
I say stay plastic. If it strips then you have a problem that needs to be corrected and spur gears are cheap. There is a screw under the engine on the plate below that backs out from the factory. It is a likely culprit. Do a search for this topic already as I answered and posted pictures of what to check.

RE: Stripped Spur Gear
I agree with Slago. I stripped 2 spur gears untill I found out a good way to set up the mesh. According to Matster that posts on here, all you have to do is use two layers of a plastic parts bag as a shim between them, slide the motor against the spur, and tighten it up. Done.
I did that to my plastic gear and it has worked just fine since and the plastic ones are only about $4.00. I've seen stripped metal gears so it isn't the material it's the mesh that counts.
