RE: RE:pics of your savages
YAAAY!!! Finally finished work on my new Savage 25 RTR. Took me AGES and I ran in to SO many problems.
Its my first every nitro, and I have to say working with the Savage was a HUGE task. Enjoyed everyminute of it though
Basically....I added whole new diff's on both sides, all alluminium (4 spider kit too).
Added the HPI dual disk brake set (at first it was wayyy too powerful, but now with a little adjusting its PERFECT), a new HiTec ultra torque servo (this gave me SO many issues, in the end I had to cut a screw in half to get it all to fit, as the screw attached to this near the servo horn would grind against the reverse module servo)...oh and I also added a reverse module.
I always end up consentrating on aesthetics before performance...
This time I promised I would'nt do that...n Kinda succeeded.
Got my Golden Horizons stinger pipe and the HPI cam type spring servo saver on the way too!!
Oh and the Hotbodies wheel/tire set just make it look so sooo much sexier. it's starting to look more like a proper monster truck. And now my truck doesnt topple over so much as it did with the stock wheels and tires. I'm gonna get a hummer body next, I wanna go for the 'gangster' look. All black with tinted windows [8D]

RE: RE:pics of your savages
Well i havent weighed them, but weight WAS definately an issue. Obviously they are heavier then the stock wheel/tires.
But to be honest when you compare the weight of each wheel/tire side by side, theres really not much there.
It does however mount up more considerably when you weight all four in one go. But, the performance loss is still only minor.
I personally think it handles ALOT better. I live in a very hilly area, and the stock HPI dough tires just end up bouncing about and many turns left me toppling over.
These Dozer tires do the trick. Not only do you get more ground clearance, but because of the width of the tires you get a little more grip and stability in turns.
Steering suffers a little, but thats why i got the new high torque servo (and a hump pack!).
Edit: Oh yea, and Saif your right. they are UFO wheels

P.S What else should I upgrade on my savage to make it ...erm....better? More durable?
Durabilty is the main thing, as I mainly just bash it around. I was thinking about the best alluminium shocks etc, but i was told there a waste of money because they bend just as easy as plastic breaks, but at 10x the prmium! Is this true? Are they not actually that tuff? And will they weigh my truck down further?
Speed is also important, but a faster engine might give me more speed then i need, and just add unessassary agro.

RE: RE:pics of your savages
Naim you might want to put in aluminum clutch shoes & the steel spur gear.I have the associated mgt tires which are basically the same size as your dozers & i chewed up a spur because of the tires weight.I used the robinson 14/52 gear set & even though it is a lower gear ratio the larger tires make up the difference & speed & torque is the same as stock and i didnt even have to readjust the 2 speed either.Hope it helps you out alittle

RE: RE:pics of your savages
The zip ties on the head help prevent scratches on the cooling head, so it stays nice and shiny and scratch free. And about cleaning a savage i dont bother. Its just gonna get dirty again.

RE: RE:pics of your savages
for some people doing these
steering mods and taking parts out of other trucks, you dont need to anymore, HPI has just releasted a hop-up steering setup.
i also heard some people buying the 25 rtr have recently descovered the diff mod was already installed
my pics will be here in about 7 days, and mine will not be stock.
i got
aluminum shocks
dual brake mod
diff mod
q6 gunmetal wheels
bowties
ofna force .26
stainless steal screw kit
i think that it, cant wait.
keep posting PICS!
