New for HPI Savage owners is a Safety Engine Stop System, designed to make shutting off the nitro engine safe and easy. Just press the conveniently located stop button and the engine immediately stops, no fumbling to pinch the fuel line or covering the hot exhaust necessary. Careful attention has been paid to the design and location to prevent accidental shut-offs. The design incorporates a spring mounted nylon arm that slides against the flywheel when pressed, a safe way to stop the engine that avoids dangerous lean carburettor conditions associated with pinching the fuel line. Installation is simple, all of the necessary mounting points are already on every Savage ever made.

Now let me throw this out there... I always use the "finger on the stinger" method to shut down my truck. I don't like to pinch the fuel line (leaning). My question is, is it safe for the motor to be jamming something against the flywheel to stall it? I know it's common practice with some buggys but I would think it would cause a massive amount of stress to the con rod and bearing. Is it possible to break off the knob on the crank where the con rod mounts (or any other weakest link)?

I always have done up till now but as im sure you will agree......its a pain to re-start............and i also stop my buggy with the flywheel and so far not had any probs...........just on the savage its not so easy.

I saw that thing on the hpi europe web site and I though
why would anyone want to stop their engine that way.
seems like undue stress on the crank , rod and front
engine gearing.

its pointless because you can either,

a) pay money for this thing that stops your engine,

b) put your finger over the exhaust for free

do you see where im coming from?

Like was said an engine stopped by plugging the pipe can quite frequently be a pain to restart immediately because in essence you're flooding the engine.Pinching the line causes a lean condition..not healthy for the engine in the least. This device probably wouldn't put much stress on the engine components because it looks like it operates on manually applied friction so there would be no sudden deceleration forces to twist things up.

This has not been a paid endorsement
Just my casual observations and opinion.

It's not just that, but the con rod will stress when you flood the engine... You could theoretically snap your con rod by putting your finger over the stinger.

well in all the years i have run dozens of nitro engines i have yet to damage one by putting my finger over the exhaust, and it doesnt make it difficult to start at all, IMO it makes it easyer as the engine is already primed,

like i said, its your money to do as you please with, i personally think its a waste

I have to agree...........sort of.........but when your burnt finger is over the end of the pipe the pressure has to go somewere and a lot goes into the tank thus forcing more fuel into the engine.

I just ordered one for my sons truck so he can stop it himself. Personally I'm tired of burning my hand on the pipe or stinger. (That's why I don't let my son do it.)
I'll test it out on his truck, and if I like the way it works I'll put it on mine. I'm just worried about it's placement.
Stopping it this way is actually easier on the motor. When you clog the stinger, to stop it, your actually forcing the piston to a stop with the exhaust pressure. IMO that puts more stress on the internals of an engine.

I don't think that this would work on my truck b/c mine has a habit of spending a lot of time on it's back, on it's side and stuck inbetween rocks. I'm afraid it would shut down the motor accidentily. I'll stick to putting my shoe on the stinger, that's if I don't run out of fuel first .

"Careful attention has been paid to the design and location to prevent accidental shut-offs."
accidents should not be a problem.

but now that you guys are talking about the harms of internal stuff i dont think i want this anymore?
