break in problems
just got this thing and have tried several times to start it for break in. I have followed the directions directly fromt he book. When I turn the Roto-start, it sounds like it is trying, but never actually fires up. Then of course it eventualy floods. I have tried loosening the glow plug in varying amounts, but it doesn't seem to help much. the glow plug charger is fully charged and the glow plugis good. the tester beeps and I also did a visual test. it glows up nicely real fast. so, what am I doing wrong? thanks guys, I am really wanting to get this thing broken in. It's my first Nitro (obviously).

RE: break in problems
ok, well I apparently wasn't gettign all the fuel out of the flooded engine. Now I got it started up, but even at zero throttle, my wheels are spinning fairly fast. the manual says slowly turning. the tires are going around pretty good and it actually gets faster occasionally. I have the throttle at zero. is this normal or is there somethign i can adjust?

RE: break in problems
There is an idle speed screw on the carb. It should be very close to the carb throat. The LSN (Low Speed Needle) is on the end of the Carb Slide. The HSN (High Speed Needle) is on top of the stack where the fuel line comes in and the idle speed screw should be on the carb throat. Turn counter clockwise to slow down.

RE: break in problems
never heard of this in a savage.. usually its just the idle is set way too high.. maybe not though.. you might have other problems... did you adjust anything straight out of the box? (besides the adjustments noted above)

RE: break in problems
didn't adjust anything until had this problem. It is kind of odd. it's almost like th throttle doesn't want ot go to idle. I put a little presure on it to close the carb and it idles ok. but if I let up, it revs again.
now it will occasionally shut off. I am about half way through a tank of nitro and it has cut off 3 times. it doesn;t sputter and die down like hte idle is too low. It just cuts off.
Also, the exhaust is dripping brown colored fluid. I am assuming htat this is because of the breakin settings.

RE: break in problems
If you have a savage 25 ready to run check your radio.
to the right of the steering wheel are two small knobs.
the bottom one is labled th trim. If this is turned to far clock
wise the throttle will not return to idle.
With the truck not running and the radio and receiver on
turn this knob in both directions and you'll see the linkage move
open or close. You may have this knob turned to far clock wise.
Also what fuel are you running?

RE: break in problems
I am running Odonnel 20% fuel
I can get the throttle to zero by switching on the electronics.
The engine is still cutting off after about 5 minutes.

RE: break in problems
If it runs for 5 minutes and dies, it is either a little to lean or a little to rich. You need to determine which and adjust the LSN accordingly. If the idle goes up without the carb slide moving, then you are too lean.
