Racers replace their engine after 3 or 4 gallons?
Hi,
I have been talking about getting a new engine for a little over a month. I have been reading up alot to ensure I make the right decision. One article in a magazine said some racers can go 7 gallons without having to replace or rebuild the engine but the ususal is 3. I had no idea. If this is true I am not sure if getting an expensive engine is the way to go. On the other hand, it the engine is super powerful, it could still be fun and usable after its prime.
Anyway, my question is;
How many gallons does it take before the engine passes its prime?
thanks

Mayhaps not using after run oil, the wrong plug & a lean setting=3gal or less.
But most cats that I race with are very knowedgeable & take care of their investment.
I would have to say the average out here is about 5 to 7gal before a rebuild.
Entirely too many variables including user error to be precise. This is why I have a
Nitro Star 25 to back up my Mach 26.
Keep in mind, most heats are only 5min long & the main about 8min. For me, that is
23min of race time over 5 to 6hrs. Plenty of cool down time.
This is just @ one track. And a small one at that. Some mains can run an hour.[X(]

Okay.... here is another idea I am wondering if I am on the right track. Instead of getting the Nova rossi and runnning it super tuned... what if I run it a little rich. That way with all the extra power it will still be plently powerfull running rich.. and if the engine is running rich it can last alot longer without losing any power.
