It may be that the mesh is perfect when you set it, but unless you tighten the engine mount screws fully (maybe add some loctite also) the mesh can change, causing the spur gear to become damaged.

Also check that the clutch is engaging properly, as if the shoes slip too much they can heat up the clutch bell, which can melt the teeth off the spur gear. I'd leave the slipper at the reccomended settings, you shouldnt have to alter it to fix the problem (setting it too loose will melt the spur gear anyway).

Also, please use spellchecker as it makes posts much more readable, and encourages more people to reply.

I think that's about right... 1/4 turn from fully tightened would be a good place to start.

well, what kind of hills are these? Savages arent extreme hill climbers, and if you want it to be, then make sure you gear it down nice and low.

Set your slipper between fully tight to 1/8th of a turn out. Are the teeth melted or chewed up? If they are shewed up your mesh must not be perfect.

And if they are melted you are probably stressing the clutch too much. Gear lower, or take off the big tires (if you're using big tires).

Aluminum clutch shoes will help too.

I do hill climbing all the time with my Savage 4.6. I have it geared at 16/49 using a stock plastic spur gear. I've melted the teeth off of my spurs, but never stripped them. Are you sure they are stripping?

I set my gear mesh with a single piece of copy paper.

I run the slipper clutch fully tightened.

I'm running a bigger engine and I run almost those settings too except i loosen my slipper maybe 1/8th of a turn... if that.

And you have to put thread lock on the engine mount bolts or the engine will come lose. The bolts are metal to metal and will vibrate out. Might take a tank or two but they will... You thread lock anything that's metal to metal. Metal to plastic will hold on it's own as the screws bite into the plastic and hold. However, taking screws out and putting them back in a bunch of time in plastic will wear out the plastic holes and you might want to thread lock them anyways.

Blue thread lock since I didn't specify above... and i don't want someone coming back saying they red thread locked something and can't get it out now hehe. About the only way to undo red threadlock is heat up the metal really hot so it expands and you might get lucky.
