I just recently got a Savage SS 4.6. I am looking for another engine to put in it. The 4.6 engine is still brand new in the bubble wrap, because I am going to get a new engine, and that is where my question comes. I have been looking at two engines in particular, the Racers Edge Sure Fire .32, and the O.S. .30 VG. I was wondering which engine would be better for the money. I want power, but easy tunning and an engine that will last a long time. If anyone has one of these engines, please post your comments/how the engine is working for you. Any comments welcome!!

That 4.6 is a solid engine, I wouldn't discount it...

But you can get good money for a new 4.6 on eBay... lots of folks want them.

Frost is correct, The k4.6 is a very awesome engine as well.I have a total of 3 engines now for my savage i have the stock s-25,k4.6,and my newly modified os 30.Actualy all 3 engines do very well i have about 11 gallon of fuel thru the s-25 and it still runs like it's brand new.

How did everyone get their O.S. .30 VGs? I am an owner of some local HobbyTown's, and all of the distributors don't have any in stock, not even tower hobbies. The earliest I can get mine is early Jan. You are very lucky to have a O.S. now!! If someone has a video, or any info I should know about the engine, please pass it on. What break-in process would be the best? What fuel? I am thinking about White Lightning.

I`ve read all I could find about the os 30, and found that it sucks. It don`t have a knife edged con and no turbocut in the crank. it looks like an aeroplane engine on the inside.users seem to be disapointed with its performance too( just do a search). a modded engine would be a different story.

of the 30+ engines I would only concider the racers edge 32 because it`s based on the 4,6 whitch I can only hear good things about.

I had mine imported from japan.And from what i gather there is a total of 3 different os 30's.Mine is the os 30vg sr which it is for the savage and it uses the roto start off the s-25.There is a os 30vg which i am sure that it would fit in a savage but it is designed for a pull start only.And do not have any info on the third one.But so far mine is a kicka** engine and it was well worth doing the modifing to it.

if you want power get the top.28(novarossi) its got loads of power and comes in a 3port and 8port versions ive got 2 and they never miss a beat and bet they have got more power than the os or surefire

I doubt that it has more than my modified os.But novarossi is a good engine if you can afford it.

when you modify your os 30`s whats beeing done to them? I can`t understand that you have trouble getting the os 30.I live in norway and here I can get every version of it, and usually norway is behind usa when it comes to news in the rc industry. from what I`ve seen on the net the os isn`t exacly a very well designed engine. kinda cheap inside.It seems like when the engines go past 28 problems occure. just look at the sirio 30, collari 32. if I could get the novarossi 28 8 port here in norway I would buy it

I have the O.S. 30VG and it's a good engine , but i expected more from O.S. in terms of performance and quality.

I also have the much cheaper LRP .28 spec2 and the quality is on par with the O.S. and even faster than the O.S. when it comes to performance , but i have to wait and see which engine will last longer.

Anyway the LRP .28 spec2 is a sick engine it smoked my K4.6 easily and it pulls wheelies easily from rolling speeds geared 18/49.

I see you have the sirio 30,what do you think of it? how is the power compared to the 4,6? I run the sirio 27 race and I think it`s great

The Sirio is a good engine , but nothing special and it was not faster than my K4.6.

Don't be surprised if your .27 race is better than the .30

WOW, there are several opinions as to which engine is the best (which is expected) I am looking for a top quality engine, and not necessarily the most powerful. The main reason why I am trading the 4.6 in is because I want to have a better quality, more powerful engine. I have seen many old os engines that are still in perfect working order, and that is what I want a long lasting engine. Those rossi's are expensive, and I don;t care how good they are, they are not worth $350-$400!!! I am going to check out the novarossi, but I have a feeling they are also really expensive. I still think O.S. is the way to go!?!?!

I always read good things about picco engines and this new Wasp .28 pro is be made by picco , maybe that's what you want.

I had started a thread as to whether the OS 30 VG for the Savage was worth the $300 cost? There seems to be a lot of opinions about that. I see that most of the replys to your post about the OS 30 have to do with an already modified 30 right out of the box. I have OS Max and Rossi airplane engines and they are several years old. But, then again, the aircraft engines don't take the same abuse as the car/truck and buggies do. I guess I'm going to try and dial-in my Savage as best as I can and wait to see what comes out in 2006. Thanks to all that have helped to get my ride running as good as it is.
