When your engine doesnt start right.
If you notice any performance issues.

If the filament doesn't glow bright orange/yellow when it's attached to the glow starter, replace the plug. Also, if you start the engine and it dies as soon as you remove the starter, you need a new plug...

The easiest way to tell is warm the engine up. Put the glow plug ignitor on the plug at idle for a few seconds. When you remove the ignitor the rpm's should remain the same, if they drop the glow plug needs replaced.

Hi there, i have an issue. I have a hard time starting my new savage X. Yesterday after many tries i finally got it started with some extra throttle but i dont know what i did to get it started actually since i had tried give it some extra throttle on all the other tries i had made before, it just all of the sudden popped alive. But as soon as i let the throttle go it died on the idle. This is it's first tank. After that i had i going with the throttle engaded for a couple of minutes and after that it could idle the rest of it's first tank. Then it was time for its second and i couldnt get it started. Then the glowigniter died and i couldnt continue.. But im thinking, could this be a glowplug issue? Damn this hobby is by far the most difficult ive been getting myself in to. Though i hope it will bring as much joy as for all the downtime im experiencing.

Could be the glowplug, they tend to eat them up during break-in.

Try losening the glow plug about 1/2 turn for the first few tanks. It will make it easier to start. Remember to tighten it back up when it is started though, dont let it run for more than 10 seconds loose.

Im a bit OT now but i wrote here before so i'll just continue. I went through 2 tanks today, it was really a pain to keep it alive through those tanks since it kept on dieing on me so it still wont idle. Now it has 3 tanks total. I run 16% nitro fuel, maybe it has something to do with it?

16% should be OK, 20-25% is recomended. The first few tanks are always a pain to get started. It will be easier after about 7-8 tanks. After that it is easy. Read my post above for starting the first few tanks.

For starters.......
A HOT plug should be used with 16% fuel...EVEN during break in as plugs are designed for percentage in fuels.

Thanx for all your help guys. Those videos were very helpfull too. My Savage .25 is going alot faster than i expected and bolts off the hop, I am running 33% fuel though. Today it nearly weelied when i gave it full throttle.

It isnt always changing into second gear though, but Im sure I should be able to tweak it.

Is there somewhere where you guys post videos for the savage?
