Th F4.1 is okay for bashing, which is what the Savage is great for. The same goes for the K4.6 engine that comes with the X SS kit. (The K4.6 of course is more powerful than the F4.1). You can get cheap power mills (what some may call drop and go engines from Taiwan) and these cheap engine will give you more power than the stock engines. I have several K4.6 engines and they run great. I bought an STS D28M and that engine spanks all of my K4.6s. I am not rich, so getting a professional race grade engine like a Novarossi P5 is out of the question for me. I am very content with my K4.6s and my drop and go STS engine from Taiwan.
PS: Just curious. Why did this thread need to be approved?

Get use to the stock engine then get a higher out put. I have been racing my K4.6 for about 6 months and win with it about 50% of the time but on a track all out speed does not win races. I am planning on getting a STS for it shortly. I have a STS to put in my buggy right now.
If it where I would get the X SS and not even full with the RTR!

I have the K4.6 that came with my Savage SS and it has been a GREAT engine but I agree for the price of what one cost you are better off getting something else that has more power and cost less. STS.28 or SH.

I agree with the SH domination I have a XTM 457 same motor as the SH .28 prospec just AWSOME..but get used to the stock motor for now you will know when you want bigger power! my 4.1 has about 10 tanks on it and then I changed power plants.

There are better choices than the OS.30
If you just have to run one of the bigger(.30+) engines, then go with the Axial .32/Surefire .32

the price for engins from HPI is crazy, [link=http://www.sickhobbies.com/Main.html]Sick Hobbies[/link] have the 4.6 for $130 + shipping. i never ordered from here so i dont know how reliable they are. they have good prices in a lot of stuff although most of it is stock componets.

Don't believe the sales ads man, a good .28 will put a beating on that OS.30... and cost less too. Alot of people say the OS is a monster after modding, and I believe it considering the VERY basic design of the engine components... there's TONS of room for improvement. That's fine if you are an experienced engine modder, but to have it sent out and modded is going to cost more than just buying something like a Novarossi 528. A $130 SH Prospec is stronger than the OS.30 in stock form.

would it be possible to make up a short performance test video?

Mine is running a LRP spec 2. It's just a rebadged SH .28 6p... just like the XTM 457 and the Nosram .28 Monster. The truck is down for a rebuild at the moment, so a video isn't possible. There are tons of videos out there of Savages with these engines though, and mine is nothing special in that regard, so a search should provide plenty of results similar to mine.
I'm not saying the OS is a bad engine, just that there are cheaper and stronger alternatives available. If you feel better running the OS engine then by all means do it. Geared and setup right, it will still be a very fast truck.
But like RCSavager said, the Axial .32 is the way to go... or at least it's the way to go if you want to run one of the .30+ engines.
