OK, Savage-land has been lame for like a good year now. Where are the videos from the likes of Slapmafro, Beaverstick, Redneck Bashers, etc..???
Is everybody off racing truggies now or what?
Somebody needs to do something to revive the Savage universe..
And what better way, than to put a jet engine in one??
I mean, just IMAGINE the sound...
Yes, it would be expensive...., so I'm out.
But I hope with this little thread to plant the seed of something truly great - something truly....... ridiculous.. There must be some madman out there with the money and technical know-how to take the plunge, to totally disregard common sense like a gnat on an elephant's backside, and, lifting an impudent chin in the face of common utility, to boldly go where no Savage fan has gone before....
Wwwwrrrrraannnngggghhhhhhhhhh....
(Would you even need a clutch or transmission?? That's like 100 bucks saved right there....)

I agree with Patrick. Someone should make something insane out of a Savage; they have so much potential.
I would even be willing to sponsor people with PXP Racing Parts if they were to make something crazy...

I'm thinking of selling my T-maxx now and building a dual motor brushless Savage on LiPo's. I know, I know its electric but I want something new with Savage toughness. Been doing lots of research so I still havent decided if I'm going through with this project. But if I do it has to go at least 45mph and use the tranny and stuff, thinking of a Kershaw Designs conversion with some crazy motors But yeah, turbine would be cool except for the lack of acceleration, unless you hold the brakes while revving up the engine in a race[X(]

I know this might not work or might be too complicated, but why doesn't everyone willing to help from the HPI Monster Truck part of RCU make an awesome project together? That way funds are less of an issue and it has more chance of being featured on R/C TV Shows and in R/C Magazines.
Maybe one group of people could make certain parts, another group could make some different parts, etc. etc.
Just throwing around ideas...

Yeah, that's a bit like saying "let's all chip in and get a Porsche..."
Back on track guys..
Just for s.h.i.t's and giggles, what about the heat problem? I mean, on a really basic level, maybe you just need to match up somebody with an old Savage to donate, and a jet guy with an old engine to throw in just for the experiment.... Then, what would be the first hurdles?? Mounting, obviously.. But what about the heat? What are jets made out of that they can handle it??
And if with a turbine you don't need a spur, a clutch, a CB, a tranny, do you even need diffs?? Or just a steering servo?
I guess one of the really big hurdles would be some kind of super brake to hold the thing in place while you shoot out flames for the crowd.......j
And then there's the parachute for stopping.......

Well, "serious" is a relative term...
(At the moment I'm more irritated that the stupid German weather prevented me from taking my Sav out today on my free afternoon..... And yeah, so kinda' bored..)

For example I could get my CF TVPs, Shock Towers, and Centre Skid Plate featured with logos on the body of the truck. -SomeGuy- and Byte the dust could anodize all the alu parts and get their AnoDesigns logo on the body, etc.

Why not a ducted fan Savage??? It would be so much more simple and cleaner, and you could get the flames some other way (pyro[>:]). Plus I bet it would be like 5x cheaper. Stick 3 or 4 ducted fans with motors and it should fly pretty fast
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/ductfan.htm
For a setup of 2 fans and good motors it shouldnt go past the $200 mark Why stop at two I ask?[8D]
Im stoked on the pyro setup though[:-]
