Default Stronger Differential parts??

Im looking for a stronger pinion gear. Both front and rear pinions are missing teeth on my Savage. Looking for a hardened 13tooth pinion and hardened 43tooth 4bevel differential if there are any out there. I found the 4bevel differential on Tower Hobbies but doesnt state if the ring gear is harded. Thanks for any help!

They don't make a stronger pinion. What the problem is, is slop in the crown gear to pinion clearance. You "shim" the diff case to take out the slop. Just go to google and type in "how to shim a savage differential"

The parts you'll need start with alloy diff cases. You also need the SS (alloy) diff cups that come already shimmed...er, out of a parted out RTR they have all you need.

Anyway, it works

Hi!

You may want to use part#:86922 (HEAVY DUTY BEVEL GEAR 43T/13T SET). Item is still labeled by HPI as "coming soon" but I think it is worth the wait.

Check this link:

http://www.hpieurope.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=86922

Thanks

Yes shimming makes a big difference as well as when landing for a jump keeping off the throttle and do not have the brakes on. In 8 plus gallons only messed up one ring and pinion do to the bearings going bad. [X(]

If you are looking for real tough upgrades go with the Hotbodies Spiral gears..

I use them myself and the last set lasted me for 14 tanks , the original gears from HPI lasted 1.5 or 2 tanks max...

You need HBC 9009 and HBC 9010 You need to shim the and retune the 2 or 3 speed, the Hotbodies are 13 and 40 teeth.

Helicals are all good, but unortunately, they are all 10T/43T, not 13T/43T, so you lose gear ration, unless lower gear ratios are what you are after.

The toughest gears so far I have experimented with for Savges are CEN Nemesis/Genesis/GST 9T/26T gears. To boot, they give a higher gear ratio too!

Here is the link for the Cen diff parts: www.customrccars.com

They proabaly are cheaper if you buy them as whole units on Ebay, but they are quite rare.

This is what I am going to order next time plus shims also order a new spur. This will take a little work to figure out how to make it work but not much.

Also if you don't have these get them

Last thing go to AVID bearings and get new diff bearings bad bearings can also cause you to lose the R/P

Just the R/P and shims if you have the aluminum cup and 4 gear spiders that are all ready shimed. But if you have plastic cups and unshimed spiders then yes I would go for all of it, then shim all of it. You will also need a new spur gear "smaller", I hear that thay also help speed because thay are less restrictive.

Cool! Thanks for the info CWC and Rexzilla. I have the aluminum case and shimmed already so it would be just the r/p i need. And i run a 43t spur now if i do this will i be able to run a 39t spur?

These CEN diffs are the bomb, I have backflipped my savage and broken countless dog bones, I have not had any dramas with them even with the sts30 starting to fire

I'm interested in the CEN set-up also. I've shimmed my R&P so the play is less... no blow outs yet... but I feel one coming.

46u.... you don't strike me as a mad-basher like some of us. You have some nice equipment and are a racer if I'm correct... I wish my parts would last as long as yours though....

I have to admit that 1/2 the time it is my problem as I'm on the brakes or throttle on landings... so I can't always blame the equipment!!
