$200 engine
I'm looking to replace the engine in my Savage and want to spend less than $200. Priorities are:
1. Must be able to use stock Roto-start
2. Good power
3. Easy to tune
4. Good quality
5. Able to get parts
Thanks!

RE: $200 engine
With your "easy to tune", a good newbie friendly engine will be the LRP 28.
Now, it takes a few bucks to convert it to the rotostart, but it IS doable.
HOWEVER...
Keep the pullstart on it. It will teach you how to tune your LSN. trust me

RE: $200 engine
i vote the lrp or the mach 427, both great motors, i'm a picco guy, but the picco is no new guy motor, the lrp or the mach would be your best bet, good price, great mills, and a great bashing motor.

Check out the Novarossi +28 3 port. It comes with a rotostarter backplate and can be bought from A main for $234. I dropped one into my truggy and it rips.

I dunno man, Mine has no problem pulling away from truggies with other motors at the local track. I have outrun werks, GRP/Losi, picco, and O.S. engines with mine. If I had an unlimited bankroll though my choice would be the O.S. .28xz or the 7 port version of my novarossi.

The LRP is probably the easiest to get along with. The F 4.6 is no slouch though and often available for 100 bucks. The Sportwerks 26 is a quick little powerhouse for less than 120 dollars. Bud

RE: $200 engine
I'm comfortable with an engine that takes some tinkering. I just don't want to have to screw with it non-stop. I've pretty much toasted my stock HPI engine learning to tune it, but managed to get a few gallons through it first. I still runs OK, I just want something with more power and have $150 in credit at the LHS.

If you are patient enough to get a Picco carburetor right, you will have a very powerful and easy to tune engine. They just have some issues that are easy to fix, but they can be trying. There are several here that would be willing to help you with anything you run into. Bud

RE: $200 engine
is the losi mach 427 a 27, a 26 or a 28 sized engine? the owner of the LHS i go to has a lst2 with that engine and he doesn't even know lol. it's kinda funny especially since it's his favorite truck.

RE: $200 engine
old age battle, some say .26 some say .27, from the losi area its a .27, the wrecks .26 v2 is a bad ares motor, and the same as the 427, also the orange and blue head of the 427's there both 100% the same but the head color, but people might say oh why go down to a .26 from a .28, well these cars run off rpm not hp, and the mach 427 puts out great rpm, and shines in lighter trucks. it works great in a lst but drop it in a revo and it does not seem like its the same motor.
if you are willing to take the time then go with the picco, very solid engine, and if they can take what BB throws at them then there one strong as F*** motor.

RE: $200 engine
I did some research on Google. I found that it is 4.27cc which is smaller than the 4.6, which is a .28 and bigger than a 4.1 which is .25. So I guess it could be a .26? The I did some more research and found out in an austrailian forum that it is definately a .26. Hope that helps out a bit!
[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=820]This[/link] article specificly states that it is a .26 in the specifications block.

RE: $200 engine
.26 = 4.26
.27 = 4.42
So, the Mach is indeed a .26.
Got my info from http://www.metric-conversions.org/cg...&from=33&to=34

RE: $200 engine
I wish OS offered the XZ in a pullstart version !!!! very nice motor....
the new NOVA 3 port is a torque motor, not really a RPM.....it has a stock blowdown timing of only 35 degrees so its tuned very similar to the RB 728.... We have been running the new Nova 28-7T and its a very nice motor, awesome torque and a very good top end ( Not GRP/NInja territory, but close) ..... Nova also has a new 28-5 port as well, which would be a nice motor as well....

for all the years i have been in rc everyone has said no more then a 3second wot hold, 5 at max, when you keep it at wot your wearing out the motor, so keep that in mind.

I cannot believe that 5.9 is still running strong, I just knew I could blow it up by now! I should check the bearings..... for something made out of cast parts, it sure has been tough.

RE: $200 engine
lol 3 sec WOT 5 max, for what? Break in? If your going to baby it, then a savage isnt the truck for you, neither are any of these engines. If you going to baby it, going get a t-maxx, and full Alum queen it out, then put a 3.3 in it and drive it on the road in front of your house. You dont need a Savage to baby. Sorry if that offended you i just dont think a savage should be babied.
