jumpy motor
In my savage I blew out a biff gear but I decided to drive alil more and I noticed the truck. When I stoped in front of my it ideled all jump and figity. It was running like 320 is that because the front wheels weren't turning so the motor is running hot

Yep, they start surging like that when the heat is excessive. You will also hear them making the same noise when you back off the throttle at high rpm. It is a too lean condition caused by the excessive combustion chamber heat.

RE: jumpy motor
I have the motor fairly lean but it still got real hot. It was 62degrees outside. Could I put a cooler plug to help the heat or will that not help

RE: jumpy motor
You need to richen it is what Glen is telling you...
The sporadic idle (like a ring ding ding sort of sound, you can tell it's not normal lol) is due to the engine running too lean, turn the needles counter clockwise a 1/4 turn or more (1/8" increments) until the temperatures come down and it has a little trail of smoke from the exhaust... It should sound a lot better too lol.

Sorry I meant I have the hsn fairly rich but like I said I blew the front diff so the front was not turning so all the power was to the rear. Wiould that cause the motor to reach higher temps

yes, the blown diff causes binding in the drivetrain and it makes the engine run hotter. just replace it and lube everything up real good and your engine temps will drop.

RE: jumpy motor
It is kind of confusing, but if the front differential is blown and dragging, then your engine will get hot trying to push the load and will probably smoke the clutches. If it is like normal and broken to the point of not driving the tires, yet rolls freely, you have a different problem. When the engine gets hot like that and does that surging number, it needs more fuel and if you keep running it that way, the engine life will be shortened. These things work on lots and lots of rpm and very little torque. Fighting a bad bell bearing, dragging brake, bad wheel bearings etc.... adds a lot of heat to the engine due to the increased load.

RE: jumpy motor
The front wheels are NOT locked they roll free just don't drive. The rear ones run fine..its like a 2wd now. So I stoped running after I saw the high temp. I have the super heavy duty one comeing. So its running hot because of the diff..once the diffs fixed it should settle?
