O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
I need some help i was wondering why my truck has been acting funny and noticed that the O-ring under the gas tank lid is shot. Went to 2 different hobbie shops to find one and neither of them sold just the o ring one guy told me HPI doesn't sell just the O-ring have to buy a whole new tank. Im not trying to buy a new tank so do you think Napa Pepboys Advanced Auto or something like them will have something around the same size? THANKS!!!

That's the route I would go.
Or try a transmission shop.
If you explain your situation most likely a trans shop will have the correct O-ring and will give it to you for free.

The o-ring has to be a silicone compound. Rubber ones will react to the nitro and not last very long.
Hvae you tried calling HPI customer support? Your LHS guy may not know what he's talking about. I know that Traxxas will send out free repalcements of the o-ring for their tanks with just a simple phone call.

RE: O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
The OP needs the o-ring that goes under the tank LID. It seals the tank so it will not leak and hold a bit of pressure.
To the OP, I'd suggest calling HPI, that seems t work better than an e-mail.

HPI will not be able to help you. All they will tell you to do is buy a new tank. Your best bet is a marine supply store as they have tons of silicone o-rings.

RE: O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
I would honestly be stunned if that were, in fact, HPI's reaction.
As a rule the RC industry has the best customer service of any field that I have delt with. I have never called HPI but I have delt with Traxxas, Horizon, Duratrax, Losi and Tower Hobbies to name a few and the usual response is to help the customer with few - if any - questions. I have had parts sent out simply because I called and said one broke, no proof or old part asked for. I have had entire engines replaced even though I purchased it off of e-bay and at no charge except for shipping it back, they paid return shipping of the new one. I even had a complete plane replaced one time simply because a reciever died.
Like I said, If HPI replys that way it will really change the way I think of them and their products.

RE: O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
HPI has taken VERY good care of me.
Sent me an engine mount... After I told them it broke from jumping it.
Asked them for a carb O-ring kit because one of the O-rings on the carb neck had a nick from the factory... They sent me a new carb.
Ground the antenna off from wheelies on the street... They sent me a 4 channel reciever.
And on and on and on.
They wanted a reciept, I copied and pasted the charge on my bank account, which I could have typed out in "notepad" and it would have looked the same.
I'm overjoyed by the service from HPI.

I'll try one more time, these OFNA tank seals have the same inner and outer diameter as the Savage tank seal, which I have measured with a caliper. If it was me I'd give them a try, but It is up to you. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBXY0&P=7

RE: O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
Just called and emailed hpi and they said i have to buy a whole new tank. I don't want to buy a whole new $16 tank just for a cheap o-ring. I have gotten hpi to send me two new motor mounts and plates for free no questions asked maybe i should just ask for the whole tank.

RE: O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
I just use a hardware store black rubber o-ring, from the plumbing section. I even did a test by submerging it in nitro fuel. It passed and has been fine now for at least a year and a half installed in the truck.
Anyway, you can go to:
http://www.mcmaster.com/
Search for P/N 5233T73 with a nice orangy-red pic. I never bought any, but am pretty sure it's teh right one.
They sell for $9.88 for a package of 25, and I am sure you can sell some to your buddies for 40 cents each.
Now if you want English, the closest I could up up with for size was 15/16" O.D. and 3/32 width. This turns out to be A5568A-116. This is a bit larger in dia than the metric one, but that probably explains why I have to "push" the fuel cap down a bit. If you try a local industrial supply company, they should recognize the A5568A-116 number (ANSI). Don't try to give them the McMaster-Carr number though (9555K25).
But really, hardware store black rubber o-ring works just fine. Nice tight fit and the lid closes with a positive clunk.

RE: O-Ring Under Gas Tank Lid
One of my friends that works at a tire shop found me some O-rings and found one that fit its rubber but they have a bunch of them. I put it on today it started up first pull and idled nicely
