diff problem help
i was running my savage the other day after rebuilding every thing except for the ring gear on the rear diff i sall that it was worn down and plus there was alot of play but i put it in anyway but when i ran it every time i would get on thew throttle it the rear diff would make 5-6 clicking sounds should i replace the ring gear[sm=confused.gif]
any help would be appreciated |
RE: diff problem help
Yep, most likely it's you pinion skipping on your ring gear due to being worn. If you rebuild it and shim it well though, you should get a lot of life out of it man.

RE: diff problem help
yea really ok so i should change that and then see wat happens?
|
RE: diff problem help
Yep, it will take care of the problem. I don't know if you have ever noticed but when motorcycles take off hard, sometimes they make a similar sound. It's the same thing happening because the front teeth on the sprocket are worn down and the chain is skipping.
Ring and Pinions can do the same things when they wear. |

RE: diff problem help
i was very happy yesterday to know that i have someone to compete with my stock savage x. the guy next to my apartment got a tmaxx and we dragg raced yesterday. i was very happy i was 2 feet ahead all the way. but it was a short time because his tmaxx broke. i'm glad i have a savage x. but today i cleaned and lubed my savy and test drive it so i could have a good tune once he fixed his tmaxx. but to my surprise after having a couple of good jumps and wellies. it was only the front wheel that is running (turning). why is that? is it my diff? haven't opened it yet. i have 3 gallons on it already is it the average lifespan of the savage x diff?
