Yep, most likely it's you pinion skipping on your ring gear due to being worn. If you rebuild it and shim it well though, you should get a lot of life out of it man.

Yep, it will take care of the problem. I don't know if you have ever noticed but when motorcycles take off hard, sometimes they make a similar sound. It's the same thing happening because the front teeth on the sprocket are worn down and the chain is skipping.
Ring and Pinions can do the same things when they wear.

i was very happy yesterday to know that i have someone to compete with my stock savage x. the guy next to my apartment got a tmaxx and we dragg raced yesterday. i was very happy i was 2 feet ahead all the way. but it was a short time because his tmaxx broke. i'm glad i have a savage x. but today i cleaned and lubed my savy and test drive it so i could have a good tune once he fixed his tmaxx. but to my surprise after having a couple of good jumps and wellies. it was only the front wheel that is running (turning). why is that? is it my diff? haven't opened it yet. i have 3 gallons on it already is it the average lifespan of the savage x diff?

i rebuilt my front diff yesterday with an alum diff cup and it is very tight when i try and turn it, it is like it is binding, like when you have your spur set wrong, how can i fix this? i've heard people talking bout shimming diffs but never tried it is this the problem?
