Hey, I have a USB cable for my FMS simulator I got from Toms RC ebay store. Works great with my 9cap and It powers the transmitter on the cable so it dosen't drain the battery! It shows up as a joystick in windows XP with all the axises and stuff. I'm thinking of ordering AFPD and want to know if I can still use this setup to control AFPD? I know I'll have to have the aerofly USB cable plugged in too, but want to know if I can select a joystick control and use the other interface cable? (saves me another $14 for buying an adapter too!)
Thanks

is the link. Love the cable for my 9cap. I plug the wall wart charger into the USB cable, and it powers the 9cap bypassing the battery, works great....
Just ordered AFPD this afternoon too! I can't wait!

Thanks bunches!
I did end up having to do a Google search for some of it, however, because some of your above link ended up with ****'s in it.
I believe I found it. I assume it looks like http://stores.ebay.com/Toms-RC-Simulator (replacing the **** with "e b a y", but without the spaces)
Thanks again,
Brad

so AFPD isn't detecting my FMS usb interface cable HMMMM I have tried restarting and stuff, but no way it will let me selct the joystick. The joystick interface shows up as a pic-joy in my windows game controlers, but AFPD doesn't see it for some reason...

Well the new patch doesn't work for me, anyone else having problems using Tom's simulator FMS USB cable?
Tried clean install of AFPD (deleted IPACS folder) and the wierd thing is that my FMS cable shows up and works (I can see controls move) when i click on the windows>control panels> game controlers.

I've done all the same stuff you have with NO luck! AFPD sees the USB, but not my Tx (FP-T7UAP). When I use Tom's FMS serial cable, it sees the Tx and responds via PIC-joy but AFPD won't work with it (also have the USB plugged in). What is going on??? This sucks!

FINALLY, I'm not the only one with this problem!!!!
The standard aerofly cable SUCKS too! my TX calibration keeps drifting, requiring me to recalibrate nearly every time I start up the sim.
I really wanna use my other USB cable.
I have emailed and spoke with Dion at OMP, but it's news to him, i guess we are the only ones with the problem so far. Haven't heard back from him since before the long weekend.
If you figure it out vette let me know!

Guys if your cable is bad, Ikraus will replace it with a new improved cable.
There are putting anti static diodes on them now.
Call Mike at 239-690-0003 and arrange for the exchange.

I don't know if this is a Tom's only issue, but there are lots of guys out there using these after market cables. I'm using a simblaster.com cable and it's working fine.
You might want to call Tom and ask if his cable is the issue. Something to do with 2 USB PIC's at the same time. See if he has a fix or patch.

Contacted Tom's RC sim, and they don't think it's an issue on their end (I agree) It's showing up as a Game controler in win XP control panels, and I see everything move when I have the calibration window open (In the windows game controlers) But I can't get aerofly to detect the joystick!
I really need this 3rd party cable to work, especailly since I got one of the "GROUNDING ISSUE" AFPD cables and need to recalibrate every time I fly!
Contacted Icarus USA and they said it would be another 2 weeks before they even got the new "WORKING" cables.

So check this out....
Finally got Tom's serial cable to work (pretty smooth)! If you do this out of order, it won't work.
You've got Tom's USB cable, so I can't say for sure...
This sucker is big on proper sequence when getting everything ready.
The PICJoy and serial (or USB) cable should be enabled and the Tx should be on.
1) Boot up the sim WITHOUT the AFPD USB plugged in.
2) You get the "unable to find USB, etc."
3) Plug in the AFPD USB and hit Search. That window should dissapear.
4) Go to Calibrate; you should see USB and then Analog Joystick in the window.
If you don't see Analog Joystick at this window, there's still a problem.
5) Click on Analog Joystick and then properties. You should get some movement on the bar graph.
I've duplicated my previous problems by hooking everything up in different orders.
Still getting a replacement for the Ikarus USB...whenever they come in.
AWESOME>>>

Vette! it works now, still very annoying to be pluging in and un-plugging the aerofly cable every time, but at least it works!!!!
Dion, perhaps somthing the Icarus guys can look at for the next patch?
Thanks again Vette, put on a pair of horned rimmed glasses, and a pocket protector, and declare yourself "supreme computer geek/guru"!!!! haha, kidding, thanks very much for getting it working!

Pretty cool now that it works! Nothing that a few Scotches and constant fiddling won't solve!
I was going crazy trying to figure it out. The USB has to be unplugged every time.
Another thing: When I changed the screen res in Options, the Tx won't work if you go straight to Fly.
You have to reboot the program and pull the USB for it see the Tx again.
Dion was definitely right about the Rad 9800....unreal!
