Default Modify Aircraft on AeroFly Pro

I am trying to modify an existing model. I would like to reduce the Extra to a 60 to 90 size and it does not take. I can reduce the wing span but not the fuse length. Also I can not get to the engine specs. I click below the prop but get the fuse.

Can I replace an engine with electric assuming I can modify the engine?

How do I create my own model. I am capable of writing software if this is a requirement. Are there any tools in English.

Thank you,

Alan Radin

Hi,
In order to make your model smaller or bigger you well need a 3D capable program, so you can resize the airplane. (I think it's possible to, I'm not sure, because I can in autocad 2006 but it only goes up to isometric drawings....) Also, blender is a good/free 3d software program, look here http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Home.2.0.html You well also need a conversion program to switch the file type so it well work in afp, you have to e-mail ipacs and ask them for the converter. Hope this helps.

Hi,

the design of your own models for AFP/AFPD consists of 3 steps.

1. 3D modelling:
Find the appropriate freeware program metasequoia here:
http://ex.sakura.ne.jp/~mizno/metaseq/mqle21a.zip

An english Workshop for metasequoia is available here:
http://kimagure-hikoki.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index_e.html

2. The 3D data have to be converted into IPACS flightsim format:
Get the free, personalized converter by an email to [email protected], include your name and address.

An english workshop for use of the converter is here:
http://www.rodeo.rc-sim.de/Ipacs_converter_e.htm

3. Working out the flight model:
You have to modify both the TMG and TMD files manually.
I suggest to use Microsoft Wordpad, which is included on all windows pcs.
Find an english workshops for easyfly and aerofly pro here:
http://www.rodeo.rc-sim.de/workshops.htm

I suggest to start with an simple trainer model or a glider and do not recommend a complicated scale model with lots of extra functions.

4. You can scale existing models with a scale tool.
Since this is limited to OBJ file format, go to www.rc-sim.de and download one of the many existing extra models in the AFP section.
Workshop is here:
http://www.rodeo.rc-sim.de/workshops/scaleAFPmodels.pdf

5. You can easily swap fuel engines and electric engines.
See this:
http://ipacs-sim.com/test/tipp51.htm

Default RE: Modify Aircraft on AeroFly Pro

hi,
I am new to this but I have few questions. Could someone answer my questions?
1)How do I create the ailerons, elevators, and rudder in MetaLE?
2)From the model I see in AeroFly Pro. the propeller has blades and stuff, should we create blades like that in MetaLE?
Thank you very much

Hi concorde02,

I wrote a workshop where you can see step by step what to do. You will find it [link=http:////www.ipacs-sim.com/test/arthur_s_workshop__11.htm]here[/link].

If you need more informations please feel free to ask me.

Default RE: Modify Aircraft on AeroFly Pro

Hey Authur!
Thank you very much for the link, that really helps! Now I download this mqo-file of DR107 model and like to change the parameter to match my RC plane and I have this question:
The DR107 has only right wing and tail and it use the mirror to the left, but from your tutorial we do need both wings and tail as different objects to match the tmg file right?
So do you know how to modify this? Should I just uncheck the box "mirror" for the right wing and clone it to a new object left wing? But I don't know how to flip to the other side though.
Thanks a lot

Hi concorde2,

you are right, the mirroring has to be switched off! Now clone the object Rightwing (Create symmetry) and call the new obj Lefttwing. But I described this step in my workshop too (section 'Creating the 3-d-model', 'Rightwing').

Good luck!

Arthur

P.S.
Do you understand some german? If so, I did another Workshop to show, how to create an AFP/D-Model out of an FMS-model. You will find it [link=http://www.ipacs-sim.com/test/arthur_s_workshop__1.htm]here[/link]!

Hi Authur,
Thank you very much for your help! Now I finished my mqo-file and I convert to obj file. And then I realized I have to correct few names in mqo-file, when I tried to convert again it could not go right through and show the error message "the instruction at ..... referenced momory at ..... The memory could not be written"
Have you seen this thing before? Do you know what could possibly goes wrong?
Thank you very much

And one more thing,
Do you know about the inertia matrix assigned in tmd file? there are 16 items, so I don't know what each of them represent?

And also,
I tried to edit my aircraft from the extra330s.tmd from AFP, in the left/right Gear part, there are X, Y, Z, R which I don't know what's it refering to, do you know? Also in the wing part, do I have to pay attention to SectionArea or SectionChord?
Would appreciate your answer.
Thank you

Hi concorde2,

error of the converter-tool:
what did you change? I don't know the error-message. If you would send me your mqo-file, I could try to fix the problem.

inerta matrix:
I don't know the meaning of the 16 items. Just take the inertia-line from an airplane similiar to yours and don't change the values!

tmd-file:
At first try to change only values shown in my workshop. If necessary, try parts of a model, which is more similar to yours than the extra (wingspan, weight).

As IPACS does not publish the meaning of the parameters of the tmd-file, it's always a little 'try and error' and needs most of the 'building time'.

Regards

Default RE: Modify Aircraft on AeroFly Pro

Hi Arthur,
Thank you for your reply!
At first, I convert the .mqo file to .obj, and then I realized I forgot to separate the left and right stabilizer, so I edit that in mqo and tried to convert again and the error message showed up.
I can't attach those files here, so I send them to [email protected]
1)the corrected banchee.mqo file that I modify from DR107.mqo (already separated left/right stabilizer)
2)the obj file that I succesfully converted (before separate left/right stabilizer, I named it left stabilizer)
3)the tmg file that I modify from extra330s.tmg from AFPD (related to 2))
4)the tmd file that I modify from extra330s.tmd from AFPD (related to 2))
By the way, if there is other direct email I can contact you, please let me know.
Appreciated your help..
Thank you

Does anyone got an edited Extra resized to a .60 model using an engine like an O.S. 91? I own one Extra 330L 60 from World Models (radarrc.com) and would like to get a plane for AFPD that best represent this aircraft. Any clues? Thank you guys!

Default RE: Modify Aircraft on AeroFly Pro

Is anyone using blender to make models to AFP?? I know it's not a CAD but I have some really good models made on Blender and I'd like to use it in AFP.
Is it the same process that you guys use in Metasequoia?

Thanks
