RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Hi,
I'm planning to purchase AFPD platinum edition. However I hesitate about some issues which are,
a) I 'm not not sure if it is better for me to buy the simulator for MAC or PC.
I have a P4 3.0 ghz, 2gb ram, ati radeon 9800xt PC
and an intel Core 2 duo 2.0 ghz, nvdia geforce 9400M , 2gb ram Macbook. ( I bought it this year )
Actually I want to purchase the simulator for my mac since it's portable. Do you think that the simulation will work flawlessly on my mac?
b) I want to use my transmitter for the simulation for practicing purposes. My transmitter is a Graupner MC-24.
Will the simulator also work flawlessly with my transmiter? And if so, how can I connect it to the computer? And will I be able to use also the software in the transmitter? (e.g. expos, dual rates, auto programming, flight conditions etc.) Do I need to buy additional hardware for my transmitter, in order to connect it to my MAC?
Thanks in advance for your assistance

Hi taichi, you can find the requirements for PC and Mac over here http://www.aerofly.com/requirements.html I think both your video cards are fine as long as they have OpenGL2.0 compatible drivers. Your Mac OS X version needs to be 10.5 or higher. The AFPD interface version comes with an adapter cable that should work with the MC-24. Yes, you can use the programmable functions in the radio.

Thank you rajul for your help,
But I still don't understand how I can connect MC-24 to the computer. Do I need to buy additional parts for my transmitter? (e.g. student/master socket etc.)
I don't want to buy the simulator without being sure that it will work properly, as you may see.
Thank you again.

I did a little research into the MC-24 and it looks like you will need a Graupner DSC module as per the attached picture. You can find more details here http://www.hobbydirekt.de/product_in...ducts_id=33573

RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Mike,
I have a number of questions about the MAC version of Aerofly Pro Deluxe, Platinum Version.
1) If I buy the version with the game controller, will I still be able to hook up my Spektrum or JR or Futaba Radio?
2.) If I can use my own radio with the Game Controller version (Instead of using the game controller) what cables do I need and where do I purchase them for the JR/Spektrum and Futaba Radios?
Hobby Lobby mentioned that I need a "Dummy" Cable, but that they do not sell them, nor do they know where I could buy one.
3.) Can the game controller be converted to Mode 1? and if so, what does it take to do it?
4.) When will the product be available in the USA? I am hearing that Hobby Lobby may not be involved with the product in the future for various reasons?
5.) If I buy a copy of the software from the UK, I don't want to be stuck with a product that does not have USA support? Is that an issue?
Hobby Lobby does not seem to be expecting to be involved with the product. Is that for all versions, or just the Mac Version?
If it is just the Mac Version, what is the reason behind having two different USA distributors.
6.) Are there any issues, technically, or otherwise that are preventing the software from being sold in the USA?
7.) The UK Dealers are willing to sell the Mac Version to us in the USA, but will we be left without support in the USA if we buy the product?
Thanks in advance for your prompt answers to the above questions.

Hi Harley, a new distributor (a much stronger one) has been confirmed and the will make an announcement soon. So just hang on a while more. They wil be receiving their stock soon.
I would recommend that you use your own programmable radio so that you can use all the programmable functions e.g. dual rates, mixes, throttle up, etc. In this case you should get the usb interface version. This come with everything you need to use a Futaba or JR/Spektrum radio. You can set up your radio in any mode.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Are you saying that it is not possible to use my own transmitter if I purchase the version with the game controller?
Thanks,
Harley

Yes you can still use your own radio, but you will need to purchase a slave usb cable. That will be additional $$

Do you happen to know the part number for this cable, where it can be purchased and the price?

Mike,
Sorry for all of the questions..
Do you have any info on the availability of Mode 1 controllers (vs Mode 2)?
Can the current controller be converted to Mode 1 by the user?

Hi Harley, no problems. The usb slave cable and all other accessories will be available through the new USA distributor. In the meantime you can get more information here http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlin...er-AWC-Dongle/
The game controller can be configured between modes 1 and 2 by the user by making a few simple mechanical adjustments to the game controller.

I just received my MAC version of AeroFly Pro DLX. I got the crossgrade version directly from IPACS. It looks and performs the same as the M$ Windows version but seeing it on my 24" iMac is awesome. All the add-on's are very nice as well.

RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Hi Mike,
Received my Mac Version from the UK.
Installed it on my Desktop Mac Pro and it is running quite well.
I am only running an older Dual Core 2.66mhz with an
NVidia G-Force 7300 GT video card. Surprisingly, it works
very well, even with the older Graphics Card.
Now that I have it running...
1.) Is there a simple way to add aircraft that were originally created for the Windows Version of Aerofly,
to the Mac Version?
2.) Where would we find the largest selection of 3rd party aircraft for
the Mac Version?
3.) you mentioned that your new distributor would have stock soon.
When will you be able to tell us who it is?
4.) If you go to this Ikarus Website, it would seem to indicate that Great Planes is now the USA distributor.
Can you verify this?
Thanks as always,
Harley

RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Harley, to answer your questions:
1.) Is there a simple way to add aircraft that were originally created for the Windows Version of Aerofly,
to the Mac Version?
The procedure is similar to what has been outlined in this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5241496/tm.htm
Generally they should work unless the aircraft file name has uppercase letters. Changing the uppercase to lowercase might or might not work depending on whether the tmg, tmd, etc files are using uppercase. Good models usually use lowercase file names. The other thing to note is that mac users have to open EXE based model installations using a zip program.
2.) Where would we find the largest selection of 3rd party aircraft for
the Mac Version?
The list can be found here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5044008/tm.htm However, the rcsim.de site is down now
3.) you mentioned that your new distributor would have stock soon.
When will you be able to tell us who it is?
You got it right below.

I am glad to see there is a new distributor for the Aerofly. Once again I have the Mac version and I can only say great things about this software and how much it has improved my flying. I have the Platinum Edition and in the future will there be new planes that can be downloaded from the Aerofly website? I highly recommend anyone who has a Mac and is into RC flying to get the Aerofly simulator.

Bart, good to hear how AFPD is helping you improve your aerobatics skills, as it has done for mine. I'm sure they will be new planes coming. BTW, my favourite plane for 3D training is the Krill Katana from the Team Edition Addon.

RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Mark,
You have been a great help and extremely responsive to us on these forums..
Thank you...
I have managed to move a lot of 3rd party aircraft over to the Mac Version and
the majority of them are working quite well. But I have run into couple that are
providing a bit of an anomaly. Perhaps you might have a suggestion?
In a couple of cases, where I have moved a plane over to the Mac version,
the aircraft seems to work fine and flys just like it does in the Windows version.
BUT.....
In two cases, I do not have any engine sounds. The sound carries over and works
fine in about 95% of the cases. And of course, the sound is working fine under Windows.
Specifically, I am having this problem with a plane called Pitts14..
Have you had any experience similar to this?
I have verified that all the file names are in lower case.
Thanks,
Harley

RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Will the questions ever end? (grin).
I have the Mac Version with the Aerofly USB Game Commander.
BTW, it converted over to Mode 1 quite nicely by simply following
the enclosed instructions.
I also have one of the old Grey/Beige USB cables from my Windows
version, that I always used with an old Futaba T6XA radio.
Can I attach the old Cable and Futaba Radio to my Mac Version
and switch back and forth between the Game Commander and
my Futaba T6XA Radio (Mode 1)? If so, I would also like to use a second
T6XA that is on Mode 2 with that cable.
Are there any issues in doing that?

RE: AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac OS X 10.5 and above
Well, I guess there is an endless list of questions.
Sorry about that.
My Mac version is 1.11.07.23
I noticed that their is a patch to the Mac Version listed on the AeroFly Pro Website,
which is version 1.11.07.31
I downloaded the patch and when I try to run it, I get a message that says, that
"Aerofly Pro Deluxe has unexpectedly quit" and of course the patch never loads.
My Mac version stays at 1.11.07.23.
Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.
I have already attempted rebooting the computer to no avail.
BTW, I am running the latest Mac OS, Version 10.5.8 on a Dual Core Intel Mac Pro Desktop,
with 6 gigs of memory.
The documentation on the website, concerning this patch is as follows:
-
AeroFly Professional Deluxe Patch Version 1.11.07.31 for Mac OS X 10.5
Click here to get the AeroFly Professional Deluxe Patch 1.11.07.31 (822 kB) for the Mac OS X 10.5 Edition.
Installation:
Simply unzip (double click) on the downloaded file and copy the extracted files to your AeroFly Professional Deluxe installation directory.
Changes:
Fixes the support for the IKARUS USB Dummy Interface and USB Dummy GameCommander.
Fixes the corrupted Advanced Setup.
Again.. sorry for all the questions.
Regards,
Harley
