Aerofly 5 preview!

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
I'll try my best to "squeeze" out some info from Germany but most of them are on holiday now. I think it should be available in Germany fairly soon (translation and printing of English manual caused some delay) and a few weeks later in the USA.

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
Mike, can you give any information on thermal sailplane flight? Specifically...
Realism of histart and winch launches (pop-offs, folding wings, stalls)
Thermal behavior (random spawning, visual indicators such as dust, birds/bugs)
Thermal behavior (wind and sun effects)
Thermal hunting (being able to see the changes in attitude that indicate the plane is fly through/on the edge of a thermal)
Thanks!

Graystar, I'll try to give you some idea with some screenshots which I have taken using different setups for launching, wind/thermal conditions and different sceneries. You can set the wind and thermal conditions using customs settings or preset settings (calm, windy, dynamic soaring, slope soaring). Some sceneries have preset dynamic and slope soaring wind conditions e.g. Parker Mountain, while others like Norrison Island have preset dynamic soaring. In any case, you can customize your own wind/thermal conditions. By ticking the "show winfield in simulation", you can view the wind vectors and thermal funnels live! The thermals normally get much larger the higher you go (>100 feet). You will have to look for them as they do not stay in one place. The thermals also do not go straight up, sort of leaning as the wind gets stronger.

In each scenery, you can select (by toggling the v and b keyboard buttons) different launching locations and launching methods (i.e. by hand or winch). You can set the winch speed, and for hand launch you have a few options including to launch 50 meters higher (pressing the h button repeatedly will launch the glider much higher).

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
Thanks for the info. It looks good.
I'm sure the answer is yes, but I'd like to check anyways...will areofly 5 work at 2560 x 1600? I have a 30" monitor.
My computer may be a bit underpowered...AMD 2.8 GHz, 2GB RAM (fastest for this computer,) and a GeForce 9400GT with 1GB RAM. I may upgrade to a 2.9GHz dual core, if it will make a significant difference in performance.

Hi Mike,
Do you know if it possible to order an English language version of Aerofly 5 yet from the [link=http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlineshop/deutsch/index.php?lang=1]Ikarus eShop[/link] Whilst I can browse the shop in English it is not very clear if software is in fact in English ?
thanks,
Tony

Hi Mike,
Sorry if I'm being dense, if I order it today all the menus will be in English (having selected that option) but if I want to look at the manual it is in German since the English version is still being worked on. At some point in the not so distant future there will be a patch that will include the English manual ? Is that correct ?
thanks,
Tony

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
I've worn-out my G2; I fly it everyday, but have no interest in upgrading to G5. I don't like the direction that Realflight has gone over the years; I'm not looking for 'air combat' for example.
On the other hand, Aerofly 5 seams to be more focused on the features that are important to me:
* flight & wind dynamics
* Aero towing/sailplanes
* Selection of aircraft offered greatly appeals to me
* I love that they have the AMA Muncie flying site - one of my favorite places to fly. Maybe they'll offer the Joe Nall flying site one day - hint, hint!
Like the rest of us on this thread, I'm also looking forward to the release of Aerofly 5; can't wait!!!

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
Mike,
I'd really like to see a C-130, if you don't mind passing this along to IPACS.
Here's mine:

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
Joe, I've started a new thread for your suggestions of new models here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9411305/tm.htm Please post your wish list there. It will be easier for me to collect and summarize all the inputs in that dedicated thread. Thanks!

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
I was comparing 'RealFlight G5' with the soon to be released Aerofly 5 and thinking that the Aerofly 5 'appears' to have focused on the areas that I'm most interested.

RE: Aerofly 5 preview!
After installing AFPD Platinum for mac, I can only open the program through the Aerofly folder on my desktop. I would rather have an Aerofly app on my dock but I haven't been able to accomplish this. All attempts have led to an error message with a book full of info and a report sent to Apple. Have any other Mac users experienced this or found a fix?
Thanks
